Mr. Ira Milton Howard passed away at his home in Nacogdoches late Sunday evening, August 13, 2017, just two days before his 95th birthday. He was born on August 15, 1922 in McKinney, Texas to E.P. and Alta Tarvin Howard.
Milton graduated from Barnhart High School in Barnhart, Texas and attended Sul Ross State University where he met the love of his life, Mildred Allen Bell Howard. Milton and Mildred married June 8, 1942 in Junction, Texas and shared 73 years of wedded bliss before her passing on November 17, 2015.
Corporal Ira Milton Howard served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946 and his WWII decorations include American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater, Philippine Liberation Ribbons, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal. Milton arrived home from the South Pacific on the USS General WC Lang Fitt on January 19, 1946, and was welcomed home by actress Margie Maime.
Milton retired from Chevron Pipeline Co. in Wink, Texas.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents, E.P. and Alta Tarvin Howard, daughter Karen Elaine White, wife Mildred Allen Bell Howard, and a sister Jerry Fern Howard.
Mr. Howard is survived by son Glenn Howard and wife, Nancy of Victoria, TX, daughters Carol Ann Morton and husband, Allen of Wink, TX, Beth Howard Brannan and husband, Lee of Nacogdoches, TX, son-in-law Jim White and wife, Jill of Colorado City, TX, Grandchildren, Allen Calvin Morton and wife Tracy of Midland, TX, Jimmy Wayne Morton and wife Donna of Silver Creek, MS, Teresa Morton of San Angelo, TX, Sherry Jo Morton of San Angelo, TX, Scotty Oneil Morton and wife Leah of Stockton, MO, Mecca Smith and husband Chris of Carrolton TX, Jason Brannan and wife Brandy of Longview, TX, Lindsay Schrader of West Palm Beach, FL, Amy Jo Brown and husband, Chipper of Nacogdoches, TX, Clay White and wife, Erin of Muleshoe, TX, Rebecca Howard of Victoria, TX, Clint White and wife, Liz of Colorado City, TX, Glenn Howard, Jr. of College Station, TX, Clancy White of Colorado City, TX, nephews, Dudley Cardwell and Phillip Kulp, Niece Paula Kulp of Austin, TX, 26 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services for Ira Milton Howard, 94, will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the Colorado City Cemetery in Colorado City, Texas.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches, Texas.
