Melvin Eugene Roberts, 94, of Madison Heights, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 at his residence. Twice married, he was the husband of Shelvy Wright Roberts of Madison Heights and the late Cynthia Smith Roberts.
Born April 4, 1923 in Madison Heights, he was the son of the late Arthur Henry Roberts and Bessie Rhodes Roberts and was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Mr. Roberts was a retired Pattern Engineer with Lynchburg Foundry with thirty-five years of service and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Sandy Bottom Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Roberts is survived by a daughter, Beth R. Gestwick and husband Vince of Lawrenceville, GA; two sisters, Hazel R. Reichard of Madison Heights and Janice R. Viar and husband Robert of Cloverdale and two grandchildren, Shannon Gestwick of Atlanta, GA and Nathan Gestwick of Lawrenceville, GA.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Freeman officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
