Penny was a social butterfly who knew no stranger; but her first love was the Lord, her family and grandchildren. These words best describe Brenda "Penny" Kennedy, 75 who went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. She was born in Gaston County on December 12, 1941 to the late Robert and Ruby (Wingate) Setzer. Penny loved to cook, clean and do laundry. She arranged flowers for her church, loved Kit-Kats and coffee. All those who knew and loved her will miss her dearly.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Joyce Robinson and husband, Bryan of Gastonia, Emily Gregory and husband, Jason of Belmont; grandchildren, Kyndall Robinson, Shai Robinson and Jenna Robinson; brothers and sister, Gene Setzer of Clover, SC, Johnny Setzer in Concord, NC and Barbara Ann Chandler, Charlotte, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Kennedy.
A celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Springwood Free Will Baptist Church. Pastor Jeff Silver will preside. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly, NC.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.

She will have 'Fair winds and following seas' as she crosses over. Sherry knew Penny all her life, I met her in 1954 when she was a 'kid'. Over the years seeing her was a staple of 'Belmont'. Always a smile and hug when we came back to town. Loved that girl. Our prayers for comfort to the family. Love from the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Penny encouraged Paul and me by sending cards for no special reason except to say she loved us. When I would see her, she always said to give Paul a hug from her. She will be missed by us and many more.
