Rhea E. Zickafoose, 80 of Huntington passed away at 9:10 am on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at her residence. Rhea was a 1954 graduate of Huntington township high school. She also attended Huntington University and IPFW in Fort Wayne. Rhea worked as a nursing assistant for Huntington Memorial Hospital for 20 years, retired from Huntington Public Library after 10 years of service. Rhea also served for 12 years as the Huntington County Literacy Coalition Coordinator and was a member of the Faith Community Church of God. Rhea enjoyed a good book and was an avid reader.
Rhea was born on September 27, 1936 in Huntington, the daughter of Albert and Gladys (Hasty) Sands.
She was united in marriage to Richard Zickafoose on September 17, 1954 in Huntington. Her husband survives.
Additional survivors include four daughters: Vickie Roberts of Schertz, TX, Valerie (Jim) Brown of Andrews, Vanessa (Jeff) Uecker of Seminole, FL and Virginia (Philip) Guth of Elgin, IL; two sons: Greg (Jill) Zickafoose of Huntington and Gary (Geri) Zickafoose of Uniondale; a sister: Lois Bidwell of Wabash; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren with another on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Albert and Gladys Sands; a brother: Arlen Sands; a sister: Phyllis Baker and a son in law: Greg Roberts.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the Faith Community Church of God, 3615 N Norwood Rd, Huntington, Indiana
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm following the visitation at the Church
Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Huntington, Indiana
Memorial donations can be made out to Faith Community Church of God or to Huntington County Literacy Coalition both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

Dick and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Rhea was a wonderful individual and a true friend of my mothers. I remember the hours they would spend together practicing songs for church services. I will remember your family in prayer.

Sending condolences to the family. Valerie, I doubt you remember me. I was a Respiratory Therapist and helped care for you at Lutheran Hospital years ago while you were there with a serious lung condition. Your mom and I became friends and she would tell me about you when we ran into each other at the library. She was a wonderful gift to the world and I'm glad I had the opportunity to know her.
