James Jacob Elder, 95, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 surrounded by his wife and family. He was a native of New Orleans and long-time resident of Slidell, LA. He was a U.S. Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Philippine Liberation as an airplane crew chief. He began working for Eastern Airlines in Miami, FL in 1947 and retired in 1984 as a Supervisor, A/C Inspection with 37 years of service. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Jeanette Scheidel Elder; one brother, Jacob Elder; two nephews, Greg Elder (Rhonda) and Larry Elder; one great-nephew, Dr. Jeffrey Elder (Amelia); two great-nieces, Colleen E. Vincent (Derrick) and Ashley Holman (Tom); two great-great nieces, Ava Vincent and Katherine Elder; and two great-great-nephews, Parker Vincent and Parick Elder. He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. and Johanna Hoffman Elder; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Burras and Doris Soulant Elder, Roy and Bernice Guidroz Elder, and Gertrude Lacaze Elder; one nephew, Kerry Elder; and one great-nephew, Kris Elder. Special thanks go out to the staff of Canon Hospice, especially Joyce, Kathleen, Ann, and Dr. Christy Graves and also the special angels who sat with James around the clock during his final days, Triena, Joyce, Van, Lisa and Edna. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Relatives and Friends of the family are invited to attend the graveside service at Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 10:00AM.
