Glenn Harland Campbell, Sr., 78, of Pleasant View, died August 29, 2017. He was the devoted husband of Dianne Crickenberger Campbell for fifty-six years.
Born on December 18, 1938 in Amherst County, Glenn was the son of the late Bernard and Zora Campbell and was also preceded in death by his son, Richard K. Campbell; four brothers, Vernard K. Campbell, Richard C. Campbell, Bernard C. Campbell, Jr.(Junior), and Thomas H. Campbell; his sister, Helen C. Coggin, and his son-in-law, Steve K. Gowen.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Dianne Crickenberger Campbell; his daughter, Glenda Gowen-Nixon and her husband Alan Nixon, his sons, Glenn Campbell, Jr. and William Campbell (Billy); three grandchildren, Nicholas Gowen, Justin Gowen, and Olivia Gowen; two sisters, Mildred Barbour and Mary Eubank, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Glenn was a devoted Christian, joining First Baptist Church of Monroe in his youth, and attended New Prospect Baptist Church in the later years. Glenn graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1956. He became a business owner at a young age and was an iconic figure in the Elon and Pleasant View area, running his all-in-one businesses that incorporated gas, grocery, hardware and restaurants. He was best known for his unceasing hard work and extreme giving nature, always putting the needs of the community, customers, and family, above his own. He was an honorary member of the Pedlar Volunteer Fire Department.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday September 1, 2017 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastors Doug Turner, Glynn Coleman, and Mickey Ryan officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
