David Jones passed away peacefully Friday morning, September 8, 2017, from complications of metastatic cancer. He was born the youngest of three children on April 9, 1959 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Dorothy and Lt. Col. Clinton D. Jones. David grew up in Hope, Arkansas, graduating from Hope High School in 1977. He received a ROTC scholarship to attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, graduating in 1981, and subsequently served in the US Army for 4 years at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and in Germany, prior to finishing his military career at Ft. Hood, Texas.
David attended SMU Law School in Dallas. During law school he was a member of the Order of the Barristers and served as Editor in Chief of the Law Review. He graduated in 1988 and was admitted to the Texas Bar.
David began his law career with Thompson & Knight LLP in Dallas, and returned to work with them in Houston for two additional periods during his career. He also worked with Bank One, Bank United and with Franklin Bank, where he served as General Counsel. David was practicing law with Jackson Walker LLP in Houston as a partner for the last few years while battling cancer.
After his first year at SMU Law School, David married Laurie Wood, love of his life, whom he had met at Vanderbilt. Their first son, Christopher Kendall, was born in 1988, followed by a second son, Bryan Geoffrey, in 1990.
David and Laurie have always been active in the church. David always felt that his most significant Christian service was his medical mission to Peru in 2012 and his well-digging experience with Living Water International in Guatemala in 2014.
David is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Laurie, his two sons Christopher (Houston) and Bryan (New York City), his sister, Billie Jones (Joseph Navarro) from San Francisco, his brother, Clinton Jones (Barbara Jones) from Charleston, and his sister-in-law, Karen Wood from Chapel Hill.
The viewing will be held on Wednesday evening, September 13th, from 5 PM until 8 PM at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood TX 77339. David will be interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Houston.
His memorial service will be held at the Strawbridge United Methodist Church, 5629 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood 77345 on Friday, September 15th at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Living Water International, 4001 Greenbriar Drive, Stafford, TX 77477.

Laurie and Family, I am so sad to hear about David's passing and join you in your pain. My family and I have fond memories of our office Christmas parties at your house. David always smiling and making conversation with my daughters to make them feel comfortable among all the adults. I pray that your faith will carry you and your family through this difficult time.

Dear Laurie and family -
I am so sorry for your loss. David was a wonderful man and I am a better person for knowing him and working with him. As he used to always say and now certainly he is repeating those words but with a different ending ... "It is a bright and sunshiny day in heaven. There are no problems just solutions ..." I will miss him. Praying for peace and comfort to you and your family.

My prayers go out to David's family. David was a partner at TK when I was an associate. He was an extremely gifted lawyer, wonderful mentor, and all-around great guy. David taught me so much about real estate law, and, more importantly, how to practice law in a respectable and professional manner. David was an extremely gifted negotiator and zealous advocate for his clients. He had this masterful ability during heated negotiations to remain calm, cool, and calculated. He was unselfish, full of integrity, and very instrumental in the professional growth of so many young lawyers. I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to practice law under his guidance and wisdom. He will be greatly missed. I know he is in Heaven right now, and probably relaxing on a beach. Thank you David!

Laurie, Jannie and I will always remember our times with David, especially in Guatemala. He and I were on the same work team while drilling and in the same room while in Guatemala City. Our granddaughter, Kayleigh, expressed it best, She said he was always upbeat and positive and especially kind to her as she was the youngest on the trip. We miss him and pray God's comfort for you and your family.

You and your family are in my thoughts an prayers as you go thru this difficult time. David was such a great friend and confidant to me during our time working together and Bank United and Franklin. Laurie, Chris and Bryan,
Jay Jay and I extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family. David was a fine lawyer but an even better man. Generous, loyal, funny and caring. We hurt for you and your loss. But, we take comfort in knowing that David's eternity will be spent with his Lord and savior and that our Heavenly Father will help you through this difficult time.

Laurie-
We only met a few times, the first was when David had a group to your home for dinner, while we were all traveling to Houston post Franklin Bank, which was when I truly got to know David, the other was in Plymouth Michigan while dropping one (I think Chris) off at Univ of Michigan. I always appreciated David's generosity and kindness and always made me feel welcome. It was a pleasure to get to know him. I am sorry about your loss. All though I can't attend in person, you Chris, Bryan and extended family are in my prayers.

Dear Laurie, Chris and Bryan, We wish you healing upon the loss of your beloved husband and dad. Sue and I always loved seeing a smiling and upbeat David serving in Men's Life, in the usher room or the balcony at church. I know Jesus is embracing him now.
