Jimmie Carolyn Cook Yates (born September 8, 1933 and died on September 9, 2017 in Austin, TX) was the daughter of Carroll Herman Cook and Thelma Louise Rogers. She married Roy Arnold Downey, Jr. (Albuquerque, NM) in 1951. In 1955, she married Lt. Colonel Norris Yates, Jr. (Alamo Heights) and moved to San Antonio.
Carolyn is predeceased by her parents, her husband, stepfather Harold Leveen and daughter Victoria Carolyn Downey Marullo.
Carolyn is survived by daughter Rebecca Elizabeth Yates Bird, stepson William Spencer Yates, grandchildren Vanessa Carolyn Marullo Walsh, Suzanna Kathryn Marullo, Andrew Carlton Bird, Allison Victoria Bird, Matthew Spencer Yates, Lois Anne Yates, and 3 great-grandchildren: Braeden Lawrence Walsh, Analiese Victoria Walsh, George Leon Gray Denton, and Persephoni Lis Yates.
She earned a B.A. (UT Austin) and M.A. (St. Mary's University). She retired from NEISD after teaching 35 years. She was a member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, AF Fraternity, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, National Society Magna Charta Dames, and Order of Washington.

I love you and am glad you are with Daddy and Vickie, and you are no longer in pain. You were always "the best stage mom ever!" Unfortunately, they wouldn't let me put that on your epitaph at Fort Sam so "loving wife and mother" will have to suffice, although it does not describe what a great mom you were. I will miss you but we shall meet again with all our relatives and those pets at Rainbow Bridge.
