Mary Jean Adkins Sheets passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 9, 2017. Mary Jean was born in Gilbert, West Virginia and was predeceased by her mother, Gernia Adkins, and brothers Forrest and Herman.
After traveling to other states, Mary Jean settled in Norfolk where she met the love of her life and soul mate, Mark T. Sheets. Mary Jean and Mark were together for 35 years and were going to celebrate their 28th wedding anniversary later this month. In addition to her husband, Mark, she is survived by her daughter, Stephanie; grandsons, Dustin and Jonathan (Lucy); great-granddaughter, Aurora; sisters, Janice Woolwine, Lois Lester, Dorothy Albright, Phylis Hulsey and Eunice Adkins; mother-in-law Patricia A. Sheets, who she always lovingly referred to as "Mom." She is also survived by her father-in-law, T.A. Sheets, as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mary Jean was a member of The Pythian Sisters Temple #3.
Mary Jean was a beautiful and warm person who never met a stranger. She could see someone in a store or on the street and would strike up a conversation. She brought love and laughter into our lives and will remain in our hearts always. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 6-8pm at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norview Chapel, with graveside service at 11:00 am on Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
