Clayton Oliver Prawl, Sr. was born on October 31, 1947 at Harlem Hospital in New York, NY to Florence Prawl. On Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, the Lord called him home.
Clayton accepted Christ as his personal savior at the young age of 4 years old at A.M.E. Zion Church in Yonkers, NY and re-dedicated his life to Christ at Windsor Village United Methodist Church in February 1998 where he remained a member until his death.
Clayton received his education from Warwick Valley High School where he played basketball and ran track. After graduating from high school, he attended New York City Community College in New York City. He entered into the Air Force after high school and served in the Vietnam War from April 1968 to April 1969 where he worked to repair office equipment.
Clayton met the love of his life Maxine Gloria Woody in 1971 and were married in a small ceremony on September 13, 1972, in Queens, NY. Clayton and Maxine had four children: LaTeace, Cytinya, Sha' Shane and Clayton, Jr. Clayton and Maxine resided in Richmond Hill, NY and were active members of Brown Memorial Baptist Church. In 1980, the family relocated to Houston, TX.
Clayton had a long standing career in computer technology, which began at Burroughs (1969-1979) and Unitek (1979) in New York and continued in Houston where he worked for Digital (1980-2001), Compaq (2001-2012), and then Hewlett Packard (2012-2015). Clayton retired from HP in May 2015. After retirement, Clayton reentered the workforce as an actor and an unofficial director. All would say that Clayton's strong work ethic is one to be truly admired.
Clayton loved his family and enjoyed his friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a handsome smile. He had a giving heart and a loving personality. After Clayton's diagnosis with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer, he was still found out and about enjoying life with family and friends. Clayton enjoyed a good meal, watching basketball, reading movie scripts, watching movies, listening and dancing to music. Clayton Prawl was a fighter and survivor while kicking cancer in the rear!
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maxine Gloria Woody Prawl.
Clayton Oliver Prawl, leaves to mourn his four children: LaTeace (Fred) Cuellar, Cytinya (Byron) Bowers, and Clayton, Jr. (Lydia) Prawl, Jr., Houston, TX, and Sha' Shane Prawl, Richmond Hill, NY; six grandchildren: Travis Bowers, Taylor Bowers, Abel Gonzales, Kailynne Prawl, and Lauryn Prawl, Houston, TX, and Ayden Coleman, Richmond Hill, NY; one great-grandchild Haylee Gonzales; his mother, Florence Bailey, St. Albans, NY; three brothers Reginald Prawl, Sr., Houston, TX; David Waters, Edgewater, New Jersey; Chris Waters, Long Beach, CA, four sisters: Patrice Smith, Queens, NY; Debbie Gaillord, Houston, TX; Doris Fisher, Brooklyn, NY; Antonia Jennings, Atlanta, GA, four sister-in-laws, Yvonne Prawl, Houston, TX; Joyce Irvin, Richmond Hill, NY; Sharon Waters, Edgewater, New Jersey and Adrianne Waters; two brother-in-laws: George Irvin, Sr., Richmond Hill, NY and Carl Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and special friends

God saw that Clayton was getting tired and a cure was no to be.
So He put His arms around him, ans whispered "Come to Me"
With tearful eyes you watched him and saw him pass away.
although you loved him dearly, you couldn't make Clayton stay.
A gentle, gallant heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest.
god broke everyone's hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
I remember Clayton from high school, he was a wonderful person then and only got better over the years.

Dear Clayton, I have thought about you so very many times in my life. Although we never saw each other after graduating from Warwick Valley HS our friendship went all the way back to P.S 24 in Yonkers, NY. I remember the day, in Warwick that I realized you and I came from the same school in Yonkers. May you rest in Peace as you greet your Savior. Until we meet again.

Our father who art now in Heaven, will be missed until we the day we meet again. To me you were a great father and to Lydia you were a father and not a father-in-law. Being there always to lend a hand or to give sound advice, you truly proved to be so much more to us. Even though you are gone from sight, what you've taught us will live on. You never have to feel pain anymore and you never have to worry about closed doors. Six in one hand, half a dozen in the other.

It was an honor to be a part of your life! You taught me that living in positive thinking carries you a long way! I was so very honored to hang out with you and just laugh at goofy stuff! Your family has became my family and I will always cherish that. I will see you again one day until then, as you always said, Very Well then.....

Clayton, you are my brother, my hero and continue to be my strength. You will remain in my heart and soul for the rest of my days. I love you and will miss you more than words can say. I will miss hearing your voice; your tales of workdays on the road; the pride I heard when you spoke about the kids and and grand-kids latest accomplishments; updates on your new acting career, the rodeo and more....but most of all, I will treasure and always remember the times we spent together -- one-to-one at home, in the city/up north and with family. You taught me how to keep things in perspective. Your positive outlook, even in the face of adversity, helps me realize I can manage change, and deal with any and all of life's curve-balls. You are a loving, caring, forgiving, unselfish and an incredibly amazing man who has accomplished so much in life. May you rest in peace. big brother. Patrice.

To friends, his commitment is solid like rock;
To family, he is a charming husband and loving father;
To God, he is a tired angel with wings to The Heaven.

Uncle Clayton,
I will miss you more than you will ever know. It's so weird to know that I will not have my prank phone calls from you anymore. I won't hear your weirdly sung rendition of "happy birthday" this February. But I know you are at peace and in no more pain and as selfish as I want to be, I'm glad you are back to your old self while watching over us all. You and my dad taught me to never take life too seriously and I plan to continue that spirit. I love you! <3

I have written more of what I call ditties than I can count and I would read them to Clayton and get his opinion. Here's one he especially liked:
Good conversation
Is a must to me
Your friendship means more
Than that to me
Goodbye and hello
Are the longest of times
Until I see your face
That ray of sunshine
You say the things
That I only can dream
Minus that Angel
On the shoulder it seems
Clayton Prawl was my mentor and friend

Clayton was a good father to the family that I grew up next to. I remember him as a kind, generous, and funny man who was always willing to help others - whether they asked for help, or he just saw that they needed it. He worked hard to support his family and I remember him smiling more often than not. A smart man, he was always will to teach you something - he wasn't greedy with his knowledge. When I was around his family, he treated me like I was one of his own children.
I'm very sorry to hear of his passing, and I hope that with time the happy memories will help to ease the pain of this loss.
Love and sincere condolences to the family.

Thank you Grandpa for always believing in me even when I didn't believe in myself. Since I was little, I always looked up to you. Being your first and oldest granddaughter gave me more time with you and it allowed me to obtain more knowledge as well that I can pass down to my cousins. You always taught me that if I wanted to do something, I could do it. You're gone now and my heart aches with pain but I know you're in a better place. I love you and I miss you
