Javel Angel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 15, 2017.

On September 22nd, 1974, Javel S. Angel was born to Cindy Donaldson and Johnny Angel in Riverside, California. He was raised and resided in Hot Springs, Arkansas the majority of his life.

Javel was truly unique. Loyal and honest, sometimes brutally so. Lover of a stiff drink, good music, great food, and fast cars. Javel’s passion for life will be greatly missed. Incredible storyteller, DJ, collector, car enthusiast, and great friend are just a few titles which describe the immense talent and diversity of such a man.

He never met a project he couldn’t, or wouldn’t, tackle. Always refusing to dabble…he went all-in, on all that he did. Authenticity was valued, hypocrisy was despised. Javel was real in every sense of the word, and those lucky enough to be around him share this trait.

Staunch in his beliefs and unyielding in spirit, he remained vigilant to the very end. On September 13th, 2017, while surrounded by his fiancée and friends, Javel answered the call and was taken home. He was 42.

Please come celebrate Javel’s life in the exact fashion he wanted, a cold beer in our hands, telling stories about his many adventures. Javel will be remembered for his incredible passion for music, art, action figures and cars with a memorial celebration at the Craft Beer Cellar on Sunday, October 1st, from 2 to 6pm.

Of course Javel flipped off the lawyers , it would have been out of character if he hadn't. I was a friend of Javel and Tessa's when they lived over on Thornton St. and watched after his grandmother. I was also a neighbor and we had a good thing going on over there. Javel couldn't let anybody not be friends, he was so gregarious and in your face. I needed that cause I'm just about the opposite of that. With Jay getting everyone involved it was a lot easier getting to meet our cool neighbors. We all became friends even though we all were so different, it just made it a lot more interesting . We had some of my best times here in Hot Springs at different neighborhood birthday parties. Our buddy Seiterich was definitely the king of throwing it down for his birthday and we had some barbeques that could have fed most of Hot Springs, if not the entire state. We would eat, drink, razz each other ,laugh and dance and then go back for more. I felt so at home and it made me happy to be camping out in my own wreck of a home across the street endlessly being harassed by code people and having to obey there incessant demands or else do community service at the dump for being such an abominable eye sore. Having Javel as a neighbor was forever entertaining. He would swing by with a barrage of bad advice wielding some chainsaw or other weapon of mass destruction offering up his "help". He was always so filled with life and kind. To Javel driving around in his and Tessa's superfly ,what was that a black new Mustang, just wasn't cool enough, he had to renovate the entire trunk with recessed spare tire area with some sort of black waterproof coating and a drain spout at the bottom of the recess. This of course was so he could turn the entire trunk into one Giant ice filled cooler of beer. Now that's next level partying for sure, and I assure you he did it we'll. How Outrageous, that's how I remember Javel, what a Character! I just found out about his passing this evening when coincidentally I was given the number of a cool traveling mechanic named Dave and when he came over we got talking and he said that being over here was making him sad because his highschool friend,in deviance no doubt, Javel used to live right over there and that he had recently passed. He had no idea that I had lived here that long and was also friends with Javel. He told me about the celebration of Javels life that is happening this Sunday and I will definitely be getting there early to get a front row seat for these stories of J that are sure to be way better than any book ,legend, myth,or movie that anyone could ever make up. I want to end this rant, which is perfectly fitting for Javel, by mentioning how I once was singing over at my shack an absurd melody over and over and recording myself so I could remember it, the lyrics I was repeating we're "Angel of my heart" over and over and over then Javel walked up calling my name , he never knew what I was signing I don't think but you can totally hear him on the recording. I still have the recording, and I cherish it, just as I cherished the spirit of Javel Angel.

I performed in an electronica/keyboard quartet with Javel in the early 90's. He was def one of a kind! We long ago lost touch, but I recently moved back to Hot Springs after 20 years, and heard about his death through a mutual friend. It made me sad to hear. Condolences to his loved ones.

It is with a heavy heart I say good-bye to my friend. I will never forget Jay flipping off opposing council at the hearing last year, how he would reach for my hand when he heard my voice, or press his cheek into my lips when I would kiss him on the cheek. I'll never watch Star Wars without thinking of Jay. He was an amazing light in this world, and I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to know Jay. Tessa, Jay brought you into my life and I hope you stay a part of it. My heart breaks for you, thank you for letting me be a part of your lives.
