Lois Frees Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2017.

Lois Maxine Frees passed away peacefully on Saturday the 16th of September five months shy of her 96th birthday

She was a resident of Clearwater since 1960 when she and her family moved from Minnesota

Her early years were spent in the small town of Central City, Iowa and later moved to Cedar Rapids

while working at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio she met a young pilot for Northwest Airlines, Burke Frees

Burke and Lois were married on June 28, 1950 and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota

The following year Brian joined the young couple and they decided to move to the country to raise a family and built a house on Lake Minnetonka

1952 brought their second child Mona into fold and finally in 1955 Wayne joined the clan completing the family

The summer of 1960 brought a big change to the Frees family, they moved to Clearwater Florida

The move was facilitated by Burke's desire to open a nursing home, which he did in 1963; The Highland Pines Nursing Manor

Summer breaks and Christmas vacations always involved getting into the car and traveling the country

Later the car gave way to the airplane which resulted in trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Los Angles, Yellowstone and even Japan

When the 3 children left the family nest to start their own adventures Burke and Lois purchased their first motor home

The nursing home was sold in 1978 which left them with lots of free time

They traveled the country and joined a number travel organizations

The mountains of North Carolina became a favorite spot of theirs so they built a cabin in the woods and spent Florida's hot summers in the mountains

Lois continued to play bridge 3 or 4 times a week and took up quilting as a hobby, Burke kept practicing his golf game and tried to master this new gadget

called a personal computer

As time marched on they started to down size, selling the motor home, the cabin in North Carolina, making do with one car and moving from Spring Hill

to On Top of the World

Lois joined the Heritage United Methodist Church in Countryside and began volunteering with putting out the weekly bulletin and newsletter

Burke died in 2001 and their daughter Mona passed suddenly in 2006

Lois is survived by her two sons Brian and Wayne and their respected spouses Patricia and Janet in addition she has three grand kids Lauren, Kimberly

and Chad
