Donald McKenney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 15, 2017.

Donald C. McKenney, "Don", 92, a resident of Westmoreland, NH, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, following a period of declining health.

He was born February 25, 1925 in Auburn, ME, the son of Charles and Helen (Cook) McKenney, and moving to Amherst, MA in 1933. After graduating from Amherst High School in 1943 he went on to proudly serve our Nation as a member of the United States Air Force, during World War II. When he returned home he earned a degree in Electronics from Springfield Technical College.

On November 15, 1947 he married the love of his life: Elizabeth Green of Amherst. The two began their journey together, building both a family and business. They owned and operated the McKenney Electrical Company, in Holyoke, MA, which is still in the family today.

He was a very hard-working man who was devoted to the care and support of his family. Nothing brought him greater joy than being "Dad" and "Grandpa". He was an avid boater, and pilot who enjoyed being on the water, or in the air.

He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth of Westmoreland, two sons: Peter McKenney and his wife Maureen of Dennis, MA, and David McKenney and his wife Terry of Montague, MA, three grandchildren: Anna McKenney and her fiancée David Lampron, Sarah Spofford and her husband Jamie and Nora Wine and her husband Alan, great-grandson: Cooper. Don's sister: Marjorie Stone of Pensacola, FL and nieces, Patricia Amos of San Diego, CA, Harriette Gonterman and Barbara Grass of Pensacola, FL.

As was Don's wish, there will be no public services.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Home Health Care Hospice and Community Services, PO Box 564, Keene, NH 03431., or the Westmoreland Fire & Rescue Dept. PO Box 975, Westmoreland, NH 03467.
