J. L. Howard, 87, of Bryan passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 24th from 2 to 4 PM at the home of Randy and Belinda Howard - 3209 Walnut Creek Court, Bryan, Texas. Memorial service will be at 2 PM on Friday, September 29th at Hainesville Baptist Church in Wood County.
Born, October 30, 1929 in Union, Oklahoma, he lived most of his life in Bryan, Texas. J.L. joined the Air Force in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1953.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Luke and Johnnie Howard of Madisonville, and his sister, Ann Elliott of Mineola.
J. L. is survived by his wife of 64 years, Polly Lindley Howard, son Rick (Kathy) Howard of Weatherford, son Randy (Belinda) Howard of Bryan and daughter Beverly Miner of Northlake, grandson Luke (Megen) Howard of Bullard, granddaughter, Brooke (Brandon) Rogers of Denton, grandson Jason (Morgan) Miner of Denton and four precious great grandchildren, Brylee and Bryson Rogers, Landry Miner and Hadley Howard.
After graduation from Hughes Springs High School in 1947, J. L. went to work for Howard Brother's highway contractor. He met his wife, Polly while working on FM 49 in Wood County in 1949. They were married on January 10, 1953 and moved to Bryan in 1966. In 1965, they formed a division of R.B. Butler, Inc., called Butler-Howard, Inc and later Holley-Howard, Inc. J. L. worked on the first section of Loop 323 in Tyler, several sections of Highway 69 in Wood County, sections of I20 in Gregg and Smith County, I45 in Madison and Leon County, sections of I10, several sections of Highway 21 in Brazos and Burleson county and all of 2818 in Bryan; as well as, many other projects in the state. J. L. enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He especially enjoyed partnership golf with Rick, Randy or Polly as his partner. He taught grandsons Luke and Jason to play golf. J. L. went by many names, J for Polly, Dad for Rick and Randy, Daddy for Beverly and Daddy J for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and each meant unconditional love.

J.L. was a great loving person, he helped me and my wife to play gold. He will always be missed by all he touched.
