87, of Tampa, FL, passed away Sunday, Sept 17th. Born and raised in Blackshear, GA, Jim joined the Army in 1951. After serving two years in the Army, Jim worked for and ultimately retired from Phillips Petroleum. He was a member of the Arlington Lodge, Idlewild Baptist Church, and S. Tampa Fellowship Church. As a member of Idlewild Baptist Church, he started their food bank as a volunteer. His hobbies included fishing, caring for chickens, and repairing things around the house. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia; parents, Benjamin and Sallie Dixon; brothers: Foster, Nathan, Donald, J.R. “Buddy” Dixon; sisters: Bernice Waldron, Loretta Carter, and Marion Rozier. He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Jim) Dixon-Lightfoot, Kathy Dixon Tyre; grandchildren: Clayton, Brent, and Kelsey Lightfoot; sisters-in-law, Norma (Joel) Corbett; Jeanette Bunch-Brown; son-in-law, Jimmy Tyre; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A visitation will be held on Friday, Sept 22nd from 6-8pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave with a funeral service to follow on Saturday, Sept 23th at 3pm at S. Tampa Fellowship, 5105 Bayshore Blvd. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staffs of The Estates at Hyde Park in Tampa, Elan Santa Monica, and Kindred Hospice in Albuquerque for their excellent care. Flowers are welcome but if guests would prefer to make a donation, please consider Kindred Hospice in Albuquerque, NM. Arrangements handled by Blount & Curry, 813-876-2421.
