Elizabeth "Betty" C. Hazelton died peacefully at the Riverledge Healthcare on Thursday Sept 21, 2017. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00pm on Monday September 25, 2017 at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Schirmer, hospice chaplain officiating. Entombment will follow at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours for friends and family will be held also on Monday from 2:00 – 4:00pm at the funeral Home.
Surviving are her loving children Jacqueline Dashnaw of Canton, Linda Hazelton of Atlanta, GA and Colleen Eaks & her husband Royle of Colorado Springs, CO; siblings Roger Elliott of Syracuse, Isabelle Miller of Ogdensburg and Wanda Elliott of Gouverneur; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
She will be received in heaven by her husband Glendon; brothers Robert, Dean, Rosell Jr. and Douglas Elliott and five sisters Marion Simpson, Rose Refeci, Arlene Exelby, Shirley Hazelton and Isla Ramsey.
Betty was born on October 15, 1928 in the Town of Morristown to Rosell & Cecil (Apple) Elliott. She was educated in country schools and later graduated from Hammond High School. She later found love and was united in marriage to Glendon B. Hazelton on May 19, 1952.
She spent her younger years working as a nanny in Long Island. In 1945 she moved to Heuvelton where she then became employed at Macadam Cheese and later at JJ Newberry's where she enjoyed conversing with the customers.
Betty enjoyed writing music lyrics, gardening, traveling, watching TV and was a tremendous baker that submitted several recipes to the Pillsbury Co. for publication. She was also an avid NY Yankee fan! My mother Mary (Plantz) Savage went to Hammond High School with Betty and considered her a good friend back in school. My mom said she was very saddened to hear of her passing, & sends here deepest sympathy. She always thought of her and wondered where she had went in the years since attending school at Hammond.
