Raymond Julian Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2017.

On behalf of the Julian Family, thank you for the continued support for our family and the outpour of love for our beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, Raymond...

Raymond Malapitan Julian was born on May 6th, 1978 in Pasay City, Philippines. He was welcomed into the gates of heaven the morning of Friday, September 22nd, 2017 at Scripps Beach in San Diego, California where he was most happy being one with the ocean, and at peace with the ride and sound of its waves. Raymond’s spirit lives on through his father Reynaldo, mother Marian, sister Maureen and brother Reynaldo Jr. His passions in life included his love for Zoe Madeleine his beloved niece, surfing, basketball, coaching his PQAC swimmers, sharks, movies and music – from your old school slow jams to the reggae beats of Bob Marley. Raymond’s legacy however is best defined by his selflessness and through “you,” as he always sought to put you and your family first whether it was by making you smile, laugh, or through his hospitality and generosity. He made clear what you meant to him, but more importantly demonstrated it. Raymond’s legacy and spirit will live on through each and every one of us.

I met Raymond a few years after I moved to to San Diego from Oklahoma. I have been blessed with great friends who mean so much to me and Raymond was one of those friends. He was too easy to make laugh with my goofiness and anytime we had a get together and knew Ramond was coming, we could not wait for him to get there. Raymond was about 7 years younger than me and I looked upon him as a little brother. I cherish the time we spent together, both alone eating at the all you can eat buffet (we loved the soft shell crab!) and at our group get togethers. I know this is a lot to say but I could say so much more. I loved Raymond and he will always have a special place in my heart. I'll forever think of him every single time I am at the beach looking out to the ocean. I was so lucky to have known Raymond. Raymond was truly one of a kind.

We were so saddened to hear of Coach Ray's passing. He was so much a part of what Rancho Penasquitos was all about over the 26 years of our family living in that community. Seeing him on the pool deck training and laughing with the kids was always so heartwarming. Heaven has received a special soul and out thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. Just hoping the great memories and love that live on in your hearts will ease the pain over time.

We could not believe the news and are very heart broken. We offer our deepest condolences to the Julian Family and hope you will heal with peace and warmth of only the great memories you've all had with Brother Ray. Our families weren't very close, but as I looked back on the memory photos, I could tell Ray was a special person and a positive vibe in many lives. I always admired how great he was with the kids at swim practice and coaching my daughter Maile. He always brought out the best in them and did it with compassion! Our family prays for you and your family. May you rest in peace and love Brother Ray!

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Coach Ray! As I saw him working for the past 15 years on the pool deck of Mt. Carmel, I witnessed a man dedicated to helping kids grow as athletes and people. He was a great inspiration to the start of many swimming careers and I am sure the families of those he touched with his life are better for it. Congratulations on a great life of impacting others in a positive way. That is the achievement that I hope we all strive for.

My heart sunk hearing the news of your passing. I will always remember your loving and compassionate heart. Coach Ray, you were an inspiration and one of the greatest swim coaches I've ever had. You always made me laugh and asked how I was doing. You were caring towards your team. I remember watching you eat Jack in the Box in front of the team as we finished each set.... and making fun of me and all my boy drama haha. I will always appreciate the encouragement and advice you gave me - whether it be for swimming or for life in general. My love goes out to you and your family. Praying for you all.

Love,
Lindsay Chin (or as Coach Ray says "LIN---SAAYYY")

We can still hear Coach Ray's deep voice when our daughter would walk onto the pool deck, "Juni ... What'd you do with your life today?" Our older kids truly appreciated his personal stories of his years as a competitive swimmer and his constant supportive encouragement. Coach Ray has made many people smile and we are so blessed to have known him.

Until now I still couldn't believe you're gone. As far as I know, we met you and Jay-R only once, when we were kids during your 1st vacation in the Philippines (I guess). Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to spend more time and know each other. But reading all these comments, I could imagine how fine gentleman and good person you are. And I am proud of you! Sayang lang talaga, hindi tayo naging close mag pi-pinsan. Nakakalungkot, you're too young! But anyways, as Ate Maureen said, it's God plan and we have to accept it. I will continue to pray for your soul and your family. We love you, pinsan!!!

Raymond dated my sister in law years ago and thats how we met. He fit in perfectly to the Farmer and Mercado family. Before my kids began kindergarten, he was there mentoring them, teaching them, and he loved them like his own. He had this unselfish personality and a laugh that I will always remember. When i was in the Navy and deployed, he was there to make sure my kids were happy and help take their minds away from me being gone. He spent multiple hours playing video games, playing outside and just taking the time to be their friend and older brother. He would take time to listen to them, knew what foods they liked, their hobbies, their favorite songs. We spent alot of time together on the East Coast, between road trips, Christmas, Thanksgiving, holiday after holiday, and beach days in San Diego, year after year just laughing and having a great time, we bonded and I can happily say, "Raymond was Family". He was a friend, a mentor, a role model and will always be remembered. My heart hurts for the devastating loss of Raymond , and for his family, friends and loved ones mourning. From the Mercado Family, our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this tragic time.

Even though we weren't part of each other's lives anymore physically he is part of our family. Raymond always had and always will have a special place in our hearts. He had a great soul and loved kids. He would play his video games and have my daughter Belle sitting right next to him with an unplugged remote just having a great time. I'm happy to have many memories with him in Maryland and so thankful to see him again when I moved back to San Diego.
Praying for his niece and all the Julian family.
