GLORIA MULLINS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2017.

Gloria Louise Vangelisti Mullins (94) passed away peacefully the 23rd of September, surrounded by family and in the comfort of her home. Gloria was born in Great Falls, Montana on July 8, 1923, to Elio and Fernanda Vangelisti. When she was three, her family moved to Galveston, Texas. Shortly after graduating from Ball High School, she married and began a military life that included living in Japan and Alaska and traveling throughout the United States. While living in Alaska, she began working as a Red Cross volunteer, the start of a long life given to service. In 1962, with her husband and two children, she moved to Montgomery at which time she continued her work as a Red Cross volunteer at Gunter and Maxwell Air Force Base hospitals. In 1969, she graduated from Huntington College with a degree in Elementary Education. She received her Master's degree in Counseling from Troy University in 1973. After retiring from teaching, she returned to volunteering at St. Margaret's Hospital as a Pink Lady. She also actively participated in many organizations, serving as an officer in all. She was devoted to her church groups: St. Anne's Altar Circle, the Jarrow Club of St. Bede's Catholic Church, the Prayer Network, and the Adoration Chapel – a service she shared with her dear friend, Nora Cammack. She also served as Burse Director for St. Bede's. Gloria was an active member of the Montgomery Capital Civitan Club, the American Italian Association of Montgomery and the AARP Local 528. Gloria loved to travel, especially enjoying cruises. She visited much of Europe.
Gloria is preceded by her only brother, Enrico Vangelisti. Survivors include her son Chip Mullins (Lorie), her daughter Susan Bowman (Sam), six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, the 28th of September, at St. Bede's Catholic Church. Service is at 10:30, followed by a Life Celebration luncheon in the Parish Hall.
Donations in Gloria's memory may be made to COPE at 2158 Madison Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36107.

To the Mullins Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

I will never forget Gloria. She looked about my age + a few years, when I first met her, and I had no idea that she was in her nineties. She was a beautiful person and I will truly miss her. I will remember her, every Monday when I go to the Chapel of Adoration.

We knew Gloria from the American Italian Association. She was always happy to see us and wanted to catch up on news of our family and she genuinely listened. She was always the same, always genuine, always pleasant and it was always a pleasure to be in her company. Unfortunately, it's been a while since seeing Gloria but she will always be remembered and will be sadly missed. Another Angel in Heaven. Blessings to her family and we are sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Scap and Shirley Cicero

I have many good memories of Gloria who was a good friend of my Aunt Josephine Keim. When I came to Montgomery to visit Aunt Jo I always made a point to see Gloria. We had several lunches together at the St. Ann's Alter Circle.
May she rest in peace and joy in heaven.. . Sissy Hugus, WV

While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of having our heavenly Father return your dear one to you.

I have many good memories of Gloria and I. We did a lot of things together throughout the years. She was a good friend. May she rest in peace.
