James Thurston Kent, Jr., 85, of Dallas, TX, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Crystal Creek at Preston Hollow Nursing Home. He was born on April 14, 1932 in DeQuincy, LA. James loved rose gardening, reading, and his job as an Industrial Engineer.
He is survived by his two daughters, Ruth Ann Tekell and husband Steve of Ft. Collins, CO, Christine Francis Jones and husband, Richard of Jonesborough, TN; grandchildren, Rachel Gardner and husband Enolih of Omaha, NE, Sarah Smith and husband Michael of Kingsport, TN, Hannah Jones of Kingsport, TN; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Alaina, Oliver, Declan, and Finley Gardner; brother, Dr. Thomas Kent and wife Judi of Pineville, LA; sister, Peggy Arebalo of Sulphur, LA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his loving wife Kathryn Kent along with his parents, James Sr. and Myrtle Kent of DeQuincy, LA.
A Graveside service will be held at Perkins Cemetery on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in DeQuincy, LA at 10:00am with Rev. Richard Jones officiating. Visitation will begin at Hixson Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 9:00am until the procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.

Jimmy, You were my oldest cousin. We younger cousins were always taught to look up to you. You were held as an example to us. I will always miss our family holiday dinners. You will be very missed.
