A kind, gentle soul, and a great story teller, Iris O. Secore 91, of Keene, NH, went to her heavenly reward on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at her home in Keene.
She was born in Kirby, Vermont on October 2, 1925, the daughter of Harold E. and Avis N. (Elliott) Olcott.
A longtime resident of Keene, Iris took great pride in her role as a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, and was an accomplished sewer and quilt maker, creating beautiful quilts for each member of her family, a gift that each will treasure with special memories of this talented mother and grandmother.
She was a devoted fan, going to all of the grandkids baseball games from Cal Ripken League all the way through the American Legion Keene Post 4, as well as high school.
Iris also worked outside of the home for several years as a dietician with the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.
She was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1413 in Keene, serving as President and Treasurer of the Keene Order, and was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3752 in Zephyrhills, Florida, where Iris resided for 14 years before returning to Keene. She was also a member of the Keene VFW Post #799 Auxiliary.
She will be greatly missed by many, especially her three sons, Fred H. Secore, Jr. of Greenfield, MA, Harold L. Secore and his wife, Donna, of Keene, Dennis A. Secore and his wife, Gail, of Keene; ten grandchildren, Michael Secore, Carl Secore, Daniel Secore, Michael Secore, Kelly Secore, Robin Secore, Richard Davis, Betty-Jean Tousley, Brian Davis, Danna Riviera; fifteen great-grandchildren, Lacie Secore, Cory Secore, Cameron Secore, Chandler Secore, Jarred Secore-Parrott, Jeffrey Secore-Parrott, Tracy Secore, Nicholas Secore, Marcus Secore, Nicholas Davis, Kaitlyn Davis, Emily Davis, Elliott Tousley, Isaac Tousley, Adrianna Riviera; ten great-great-grandchildren, Jessica Secore, Lexi Secore, Jasper Secore, Lian Secore, Langston Secore, Joseph Secore, Lydia Secore, Skye Lapointe, Jabe Parrott, Hannah Secore; a brother, Glenn Olcott of East St. Johnsbury, VT; and several nieces and nephews. Iris was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Fred H. Secore, Sr., in 1997; a daughter, Geraldine A. Merchant in 2010; a granddaughter, Tracy Ann Secore; three brothers, Henry Olcott, Clarence Olcott and Leo Olcott; and a sister, Dora Tillotson.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday morning, September 28, 2017 at 11:00AM in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. Family and friends are welcome. There are no public calling hours.
