Ernst, Brother Louis August, S.M. died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Marianist Residence Community in San Antonio, TX. Bro. Louis was 81 years old and had lived Marianist religious life for 64 years. He was born in St. Louis, Mo and met the Marianists at DeAndreis High School.
After completing his studies at St. Mary's University, he ministered for three years at St. Joseph School in Victoria, TX. He served 29 years at Chaminade College Prep in St. Louis as a teacher and administrator. He then served for 23 years at Nolan H.S., Ft. Worth, TX as a teacher and a tutor. He came to the Marianist Residence in San Antonio in 2011 and endeared himself to the students and faculty with his constant support of all student activities and friendliness to all he met.
He is survived by his sisters, Jo Ann Cwiklowski, Wentzville, MO, Kathie Genco, Harrington Park, NJ, Mary Lauer, St. Charles, MO, a brother, James Ernst, St. Louis, MO, a sister-in-law, Gerri Ernst, Santa Clara, CA, his cousin, Bro. Delmar Jorn, S.M. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: In St. Louis, there will be a visitation from 3:00 PM until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 4:00 PM in the chapel at Vianney H. S., 1311 S. Kirkwood Rd., Kirkwood, MO 63122 on Friday, September 29th. Interment will be in the Maryhurst Cemetery followed by a reception, all on the grounds of Vianney. Memorial donations may be sent to the Marianist Mission, 4435 E. Patterson Road, Dayton, OH 45430.
