Walter Wiley "Sam" Lynn, of Raleigh, passed away surrounded by family at his home, Thursday, September 28, 2017. He was born at Rex hospital in Raleigh to the late Walter (Jack) Lynn Jr. and Aline Alma (Poole) Lynn.
Sam attended Cary High School before joining the United States Army, in which he spent 20 years serving before retiring. San worked for various companies as a driver including Thurston Motor Lines, Brown Transport, RDU, and Barnes US Mail. Sam was a member of the US Army's 805th Military Police Company 95B 63B
He was a longtime member of Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church and a member of the Shady Grove Senior Citizens Sunday School.
Sam is survived by brothers; Henry "Jim" Lynn of Raleigh, Billy (Annette) Lynn of South Dakota, Robert Lynn of Tampa, FL, sisters; Kay (Richard) Buchanan of Durham and Jo (Dennis) Dillard of Gastonia, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Sam also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Trickie and Blackett.
The family does appreciate flowers, but would ask for memorial contributions to be made to Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church (3805 Carpenter Pond Road, Durham, NC 27703)
A visitation will be held Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church (3805 Carpenter Pond Rd, Durham, NC 27703). A funeral service will be held Monday, October 2, 2017 at the church and burial will follow at Lynn Family Cemetery.
