Bloomington – Maxine M. Stephens, 90, of Bloomington, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Mclean County Nursing Home, Normal.
Maxine was born April 22, 1927, in Oologah, OK the daughter of Elwood and Bertha Coker King. She married Charles Stanley Stephens on November 6, 1945. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Surviving are their children, James "Jim" (Judith) Stephens, Bloomington; and Charles (Lynn) Stephens, Jr., Hudson; a son-in-law, Lynn Westerfield, Hudson; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Imogene King-Crutchfield; Wanda Kroger; and Vada Wheatley; a brother, Dub King. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Pat Westerfield; a son, Ronald Lee Stephens; a grandchild, Monique Pleasant; two sisters, Mildred McClure and Luella Leerskov; and a brother, Byrel King.
Maxine was a devoted Christian. She did a lot of charitable work for her church. She also volunteered at Lake Charles Hospital in Louisiana. She loved to cook, read, and spend time with her family. She was known throughout the community as a wonderful seamstress. She also made the best doughnuts.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baby Fold. Online condolences may be shared with the family at eastlawn-bloomington.com.

Maxine was on the 200 floor at the nursing home, as my Mother (Marcella Weakley). I visited the home nightly to feed Mom. Maxine always had a smile as I spoke to her. May she rest in peace.
