Brent Cobb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 4, 2017.

Brent Benjamine Cobb lived a life of dedication and devotion, a life firmly grounded in his walk with Christ and made manifest in the generosity and loyalty he gave to his relationships with his family and friends. Brent was deeply committed to his wife Catherine Gilliam Cobb and their sons James Benjamine and Matthew Brent, who will be forever filled with Brent's steadfast and sturdy presence. His life was one of discipline and purpose, balanced with compassion and a fun loving, upbeat, optimistic spirit.

Born April 16, 1976 in Meridian to Betsy and Leonard Cobb, Brent earned his Eagle Scout, played soccer, and graduated from Meridian High School. He then graduated from Mississippi State where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and where he also earned his MBA. He worked for Miller Transporters, following proudly in the footsteps of his great grandfather H.D. Miller, Sr. and his grandfather James A. Miller. Respected by his co-workers and peers in the industry, Brent was currently serving as Vice President of Safety and Quality, elevating Miller Transporters' signature trait, safety, to an industry-leading level.

He will be deeply missed by his wife and sons, his mother and father. He will also be deeply missed by his grandmother Mary Ann Miller, his aunt and uncle Carolyn and William Cobb of Dallas, TX, his aunt and uncle Ann and Woodie McDuffie, his cousins Rebecca and Ryan Hall, Rachel and Ben Bearden, and his sister-in-law Holli Houston Cobb and nephews Houston Miller Cobb and Witten Louis Cobb, as well as by his in-laws Charles and Gail Gilliam of Opelika, AL, his brother and sister-in-law Jenny and Jeremy Gilliam, and niece and nephews Carleigh, Andrew, and Jack Gilliam of Panama City Beach, FL, and his grandmothers-in-law Georgia Cross and Joy Gilliam of Lexington, TN. Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents James A. Miller and Gladys and Marshall Cobb, as well as by his beloved brother Circuit Judge Justin Miller Cobb.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 5, from 5pm-7pm, and the celebration of life will be Friday, October 6, at 10am, both at First Baptist Church Madison. Because Brent served First Baptist Church Madison as a deacon and as an active supporter of children's activities, please consider making contributions in gratitude for his life and in honor of his love for his children to the Children's Ministry at First Baptist Church Madison. Memorial gifts may also be made in honor of Brent B. Cobb and Justin M. Cobb to the School of Business at Mississippi State.

Am very Sorry to hear about Brent--Have been out of the city for awhile. I was a Vendor to Miller for many years and had met Brent several years ago when he began working closely with Ray Riley. He very quickly picked-up information on Drug Testing(service I provided-until my Retirement 2 years ago) and was quick to understand the process. I sensed he was a good Family-Man and just was 'generally' A Good guy. So Sorry!!

Catherine,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I am lifting you, your boys and all your extended family in prayer in the days ahead. There is joy in knowing you will be together with Brent in heaven but that doesn't lessen to pain and loss you feel now. Praying that in those toughest moments you feel the precious hand of God on you and your family.

I knew Brent professionally. He was a pleasure to work with and if I could describe Brent with only one word, that word would be the Yiddish word mensch - a person of noble character, integrity and honor, as well as someone to admire and emulate.

Our thoughts and prayers with Catherine, the boys and the entire family.

I will miss seeing my friend/neighbor at the gym. He was usually the first one there every morning. His quick wit and our sons's soccer stories, as well as, our Hail State discussions will be sorely missed.

May you find comfort in the following...

I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.

I live in Cross Creek Subdivision. I drove by your home this week and saw the gathering of friends in your driveway praying. I just realized what happened this morning. I have driven by your home for the past few years and saw Brent and those precious boys outside playing. May you find comfort in the sweet memories and comfort from friends and family during this most difficult time.
