Dorothy "Dot" Helen Wright Bush, 96 of Townshend, VT died peacefully Friday morning, October 6, 2017 at Vernon Green Nursing Home. She was born in Townshend on January 31, 1921 to Arthur and Emma (Parker) Wright.

Mrs. Bush was raised in Grafton, VT and graduated from Leland and Gray High School in 1938. She went on to attend Vermont College, graduating in 1940 with a degree in Hotel Management and Hospitality.

On June 29, 1940 at the Grafton Congregational Church, Mrs. Bush married her high school sweetheart, Bradford 'Brad" D. Bush. They resided in Brookline and started their family. In the early 1950's, the family moved to Saxtons River and then to Grafton and Townshend where Mrs. Bush was an active volunteer in church and town activities. She joined the Blazing Star Chapter (now merged with the Mt. Lebanon Chapter) of The Order of the Eastern Star in 1942. She continued to be an active member for nearly 75 years including being named as the Grand Representative of West Virginia and Vermont.
Mrs. Bush was widely known as an accomplished seamstress, having created many custom outfits including wedding and bridal party dresses, as well as expert alterations. Her locally famous quilt made from former Grafton resident, Robert Barrett's neckties hangs in the Grafton Historical Society. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, crafting, and cheering on the Boston sports teams, especially her Sox and Celtics. Her love of family, friends, flowers, food and fun was ever-present and contagious. Her smiles and hugs could chase away the darkest day.

Mrs. Bush is survived by three sons, Robert Bush of Tallahassee, FL, Delmar Bush of Bellows Falls, VT and Barry Bush of Canadendsis, PA; a daughter, Marilyn (Bush) Beaudoin of Simsbury, CT; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; as well as a niece, Ellen (Wright) Archambault of Londonderry, VT and a nephew, Douglas Wright of Grafton, VT
.
She is predeceased by her husband after nearly 66 years of marriage in 2006; a son, Donald Bush in 2000; a great grandson, Aaron in 2017; two brothers, Howard and Walter Wright; and a niece and nephews.

She was a faithful and devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Her family was the center of her life.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Newfane Congregational Church, 11 Church St, Newfane, VT. A reception will follow at the church. A private family burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Brookline, VT. The KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, Brattleboro, VT is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Cottage Hospital and/or Valley Cares, 185 Grafton Rd, Townshend, VT 05353.

What great memories of Mom Bush and Bush Mountain. A true Grand Ole' Lady full of hospitality for everyone, even me who spent several weeks every summer with she and Pop Bush doing chores to earn the prevelidge of just soaking up the mountain air and beauty of Bush Mountain! We traveling balloon pilots have lost a true friend, friendly reception, and a warm place to hang out. Mom and Pop Bush were always ready to jump in the basket for a quick flight from their front yard, the top of the world for sure. Every year Mom Bush would remind me that she's starting a new to-do list for me when I return, a list that I was so glad to work on. Fixing the refrigerator, screen door, garage door, weed whacking, cutting the grass, picking blueberries and even driving her to the Grafton fair. No matter the task it was always appreciated and greeted with a warm smile, a welcome hug, and a great meal! I truly will miss you Mom Bush! Now you join Pop Bush who is probably out riding his heavenly lawn mower!! Love you and will miss you more than you know

Dot was such a sweet, wonderful lady who exemplified grace, determination, grit, and love. When our daughters were young, it was a tradition to get our Christmas trees from Brad and Dot and, when the girls were babies, Dot would watch them while we went out to pick our tree. A firm friendship was established over the years, one that we will never forget. Dot always wanted to sit and chat for as long as we were willing to stay, and it was the same when I visited her at Valley Cares.
