As We Look Back
By an Unknown Author
As we look back over time
We find ourselves wondering …..
Did we remember to thank you enough
For all you have done for us?
For all the times you were by our sides
To help and support us …..
To celebrate our successes
To understand our problems
And accept our defeats?
Or for teaching us by your example,
The value of hard work, good judgment,
Courage and integrity?
We wonder if we ever thanked you
For the sacrifices you made.
To let us have the very best?
And for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared?
If we have forgotten to show our
Gratitude enough for all the things you did,
We're thanking you now.
And we are hoping you knew all along,
How much you meant to us.

My mother and step father, Joan & Roger McAuley, moved next door to the Bobadilla family in Hawthorne, CA, in 1963, when my brother Mark was born. We were close families then, sharing many afternoons and weekends as well as events, such as the sad JFK assassination as well as the times changing Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show My family moved to Upland, CA, in 1964, and one of the last times I saw David and Tiger was when my mother took care of them during Halloween, when I took them out trick or treating on our block. Shortly thereafter, we moved back into the LA area and then on to Venezuela, ultimately returning to Texas, where my mother, brother and I live today. I have often wondered what happened to the Bobadilla family, but I remember Rudy being a kind and gentle man, and his family should be proud to have his as a Dad.

Rudy was a wonderful blessing to our neighborhood. He loved walking the block & stopping to chat. He always had an interesting story or fact to share. Neighbor gatherings were so fun for him, he loved all the yummy food & talking with everyone. The holidays will be a little lonely this year, without Rudy's friendly visit. You will be missed Rudy, but happy you are reunited with your beloved wife...Sue & Tod❤

My mother Rita has fond memories of Rudy as a child and young man. Her mother Nicolasa and Rudy's mother Chata were sisters. When they visited in recent years, they would reminisce about their lives, especially how they intersected along the way. She'll miss Rudy's gentle nature, kind heart, and the link he provided to so many they both loved. She treasured their relationship and will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.

When we moved in next door 18 years ago, I remember Rudy's smile being the first to greet us. Such a nice man.... I know my mom and he shared many conversations and I'm sure she was there with a hug in Heaven! It's hard losing a parent so my thoughts are with the family in this difficult time. Cheers to fighting so long and hard Rudy, you are home now.

Dear Rudy will be so missed by his neighbors. His joyfulness and kindness made him a wonderful friend. I will never forget how Rudy took the time to chat with my dad on his walks. It meant so much to him. Our loss is Heaven's gain. Rest in peace neighbor.

Dad, where do I begin? The memories of these last years with you I hold dear to my heart. The last weeks, even more so. There is no possible way to write here all that you mean to me or that I wish for you. My life is simply so much better because you adopted me and brought me into your heart. I know you are at peace now, in Mom's arms. I love you, and I will miss you. This is not goodbye, only so long'. Until we meet again, your loving daughter, Dani.
