COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Barbara Jean Callan, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mrs. Callan passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Frederic Boyce and Mabel McCarthy Boyce.
Barbara graduated from Marymount Manhattan College. She was an elementary school teacher along with being a parishioner of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Barbara was a longtime member a local New York PTA, where she served as the President of the Local Council. Mrs. Callan had a love for reading and was a member of Woodcreek Book and Bunko Club. She was also a great cook and loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, John Francis Callan; son, John Francis Callan, Jr. of New York; daughters, Elizabeth Marie Callan of Elgin and Christina Callan Richardson (Mark) of Blythewood; grandchildren, Caitlin Anne Richardson, Callan Elizabeth Richardson, and Caroline Ruth Richardson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Fredric Boyce and William Boyce.
