James Wesley Hobbs, 69, of Smithfield, passed away at his home on Monday, October 16, 2017. He was preceded in death by this father Harvey Hobbs, Sr. and a sister, Rosa Oneal.



James, also known as "Smoothe" to many of his friends, was well loved by his community. He was known to his family and friends for his big smile. James served in the United States Army as a young man. He was a wonderful cook as well as being creative. James could always turn a man's trash into a treasure.



James Wesley Hobbs is survived by a son, Wesley Baker Hobbs of Smithfield and Cathy Baker of Smithfield, his significant other for twenty-seven years. James has four surviving sisters, Louise Hobbs, Barbara Hobbs and Evelyn McClearn of Smithfield and Jerri Everett and husband Michael of Goldsboro. He is survived by a brother, Harvey Hobbs, Jr. of Smithfield and a mother that he cherished deeply, Viola Mayo Hobbs, also of Smithfield.



James has a host of nieces and nephews as well as Tammy Freeman who was like a daughter.
