Zofia (Ogonowska) Merchel 91, of New Britain passed away peacefully on Sunday October 15, 2017 at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Wladyslaw Merchel. Zofia was born in Poland to the late Jan and Elenora (Gryzb) Ogonowski and came to the United States in 1965 with her husband and their two younger children. A long time New Britain resident, a member of Sacred Heart Church and retired from Fafnir Bearing, where she worked for 30 plus years. Zofia is survived by her three children, Wanda Sendrowski and her husband Wladyslaw, Mary Klosek and George Merchel and his wife Halina; five grandchildren, Jolanta and Ewa Sendrowska, Joanna Brown and her husband Ronald, Tina Nichols and her husband Richard Jr., Gregory Merchel and his wife Sara; four great-grandchildren Lukasz Wlodarczyk, Nora and David Trohaug and Richards Nicholls III. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Jan Klosek.
Her funeral procession will leave the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain Friday morning at 9:00. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, New Britain at 9:30. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. The visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7pm.
