Donald S. "Donnie" Schanz, 71, of Mascoutah, Illinois, born May 6, 1946, in Mascoutah, Illinois, passed away, Monday, October 16, 2017 in Belleville, Illinois.
Donnie worked as a truck driver and did body repair on automobiles. He was a past member of the Mascoutah Sportsman's Club. He was a food connoisseur and enjoyed barbequing. He loved spending time with friends and never met a stranger. He was always ready to lend a hand and help friends and family in need. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Schanz, nee Ellis; his parents, Sylvester H. and Dolores, nee Valkamp, Schanz; a sister, Carol Bell, a son-in-law, Robert "Bob" Cunningham, and a brother-in-law, Roger Scroggins.
Surviving are his loving wife of 15 years, Christine Schanz, of Mascoutah, Illinois; his children, Sandra J. (Bill) Cunningham-Teal, of O'Fallon, Illinois, Kenneth (Sonia) Schanz, of Bethalto, Illinois, and Joseph E. Schanz, of Mascoutah, Illinois; his grandchildren, Shannon (Cody) Southerland, Matthew Schanz, and Donna Schanz; his three great grandchildren, Danielle Knoche, Harkryder "Ryder" Southerland, and Dustin Schanz; his siblings, Paul (Cindy) Schanz, Sylvia (Joe) Seper, Charlie (Sue) Schanz, Debbie Scroggins, Richard (Cindy) Schanz, Jan (Gary) Gould, Nancy Barker, Barbie (Mark) Potts, and Mark (Patti) Schanz; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
Funeral: Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mascoutah City Cemetery, Mascoutah, Illinois.

Christina we were shocked to hear of Donnie's passing. We were sad to see Donnie & you leave HLB. Donnie was such a helpful and friendly guy. He always was willing to lend a tool or help whether it was working on a golf cart or splitting wood. Take care we will meet Donnie again, Goodbye Friend,
