On Thursday, October 19, 2017 Laura Patricia Billings Thomasson, 82, peacefully went to be with her Lord. Patty was born in Hays, NC to Claude Erastus Billings and Laura Elledge Billings on May 29, 1935. She graduated from Mountain View High School as valedictorian of her class and from Appalachian State Teacher's College. Patty taught in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School system.
Patty's faith was especially evident as she faced death without fear, desiring to meet her Savior. At Calvary Baptist Church, she served as a children's Sunday school teacher, and tutor for children learning English as a second language. Many have benefitted from her patience, wise advice, and example of how to live and love others, making all feel treasured.
She took great interest in her grandkids' sports, music, and educational activities. Spending time with family and friends, serving others, cooking, music, flower gardening, and traveling were among Patty's favorite activities.
Patty is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Lanier Thomasson; daughter, Anna Feather (Keith) of Greensboro, and grandchildren, Adelyn, Robert, and Zachary, son, Jeff Thomasson (Beth) of Hillsborough, and grandchildren, Luke and Joshua, and daughter, Laura Payne (David) of Clemmons, and grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel and Clayton. She is also survived by her brother; Claude E. Billings Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters; Nelle Woodruff and Hazel Sebastian.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, October 23, 2017, at 11:30a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with Reverend Gary Byrum officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, NC following the service. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:15 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International, PO Box 5811, Winston-Salem, NC 27113 or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Patty. We taught at Lewisville Elementary together in the PRT program. She was very kind, sweet, caring and always spoke in a positive way. She was so proud of her children and would keep me informed about their lives. We would run into each other after her retirement and it was always wonderful to catch up with new news. I will always remember her fondly. My heart and prayers are with you as you journey through your loss.

After reading this, we know where Anna and Adelyn got their sweet personalities and caring spirits, from this dear mother and grandmother. I am sure that this world will miss sweet Patty. May the family experience His peace during this time of grief. Dennis & Jane Moore, Greensboro

Patty was, without a doubt, one of the loveliest ladlies who I have EVER known. Heaven definitely gained an angel. Prayers going up for the precious family members as they work through their grief, knowing they will see her again.

Patty and her wonderful family have always been a joy to see at family reunions. We will miss her warm smile and gentle spirit but will cherish these memories. I know many generations of children have been influenced by her teaching and the reflection of the love of Jesus in her life.
