Mr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, age 77 of McDonough, Georgia passed away October 22, 2017. He was born in Palmerdale, Alabama to the late Oscar Gregory and Myrtle Isalone Everett Holmes. He was preceded in death by first wife, Betty Holmes and by brothers and a sister, Alva, Clyde, Lasiter, Durward, Ed and Troy Holmes and Josie Huddleston. He graduated from Huiett Trussville High School faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Wendell retired after 35 years with the Ford Motor Company and was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. He was a volunteer at Sacred Journey Hospice and has been singing Southern Gospel music all his life, performing in weddings and funerals. Survivors include his wife, Leila Holmes; step-daughter, Marilyn (Marshall) Larsen of Hiram; step-son, Rollan Eskew of Rex; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers in law, Dr. David Jeffares of Lexington, KY, Pastor Richard T. (Janice) Jeffares of Nashville, IN and Victor L. (Cathy) Jeffares of Stockbridge. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 – 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Dr. David Jeffares will officiate. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Friends may visit the family Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Leila, I'm sorry of your loss. Uncle Wendell is now singing with family in the heavenly choir. It is the great reunion with his parents and brothers and sister. We will miss him much. Thanks for being with him and taking care of him these last days of his life here! We love you and pray for comfort and rest! God is Good!
