Margaret “Peggy” Benton, 79, of Campbells Creek, born October 1, 1938 in Charleston, went home to be with the Lord and her son, Rick, on October 21, 2017.
Peggy worked hard at several different jobs and loved working with the public. She loved spending time with her family and attending church at Liberty Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by son, Rick Wheeler; parents, Lewis and Evelyn Butts; sister, Betty Moore; and brother, Wesley Butts.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 49 years, Clifford “Sparky” Benton; daughters, Claudia Lewis of St. Albans and Kathy (Jimmy) Means of Charleston; sons, Paul Wheeler and Ivan “Mutt” (Joanna) Wheeler, both of Charleston and Randy Wheeler of South Charleston; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Wheeler of Chesapeake; siblings, Caroline Martin of Charleston, David and Roger Butts of Ohio and Ivan and Vincent Butts of Charleston; grandsons, Shawn (April) Means, Danny (Tenyah) Wheeler and John (Amanda) Jones; granddaughter, Misty (PJ) Johnson; great-granddaughters, Shawna Means, Breanna Johnson and Yasmeen Wheeler; and great-grandsons, Cole Means, Rick Tucker, Nathan and Jacob Wheeler and Dillion and Tyler Jones.
Peggy will be greatly missed by all the hearts she touched.
The funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Big Bottom Missionary Baptist Church, Campbells Creek, with the Rev. Fred Christian officiating. The burial will follow the service at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
A visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 and 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Big Bottom Missionary Baptist Church.
