William Learmonth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 23, 2017.

William (Buddy) Alfred Learmonth, 83, of Fayetteville went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 21, 2017.

Born on June 3, 1934, to the late Opal Kelley Thrift and James Learmonth. Our devoted husband, father and friend can now rest.

Mr. Learmonth served his country in the United States Navy for four years and retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Army with 18 years of service.

A graduate from West Virginia Tech, Mr. Learmonth applied his love for sports and children as a teacher at Scarbro Elementary and Gatewood Elementary for 18 years. Over time, he taught, coached, umpired, and influenced countless young minds in his community.

He served his community as a member of Post 149 of the American Legion, and faithfully attended Fayetteville United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 53 years, Judy. They were honored to celebrate their wedding anniversary on October 17. His daughters Carol Jane Learmonth of Fayetteville and Jennifer L. Kincaid and husband, Bobby of Beckley; his two beautiful grandchildren, Brett M. Gadomski and Laken G. Kincaid both of Beckley, survive him.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Friends may gather with the family on Wednesday, October 25 from 5 to 7 PM at Fayetteville United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 1 PM at Fayetteville United Methodist Church with Reverend Timothy Bleigh officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fayetteville United Methodist Church, PO Box 87, Fayetteville, WV 25840 in his memory would be appreciated.
