Lisa Torry Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 24, 2017.

Lisa May Torry Smith, 37, died October 19th, 2017 from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle, while walking her child to school, in Missouri City, TX.

Lisa was born in Carson City, NV on June 21st, 1980, growing up in the area until moving to Arizona for secondary school and college studies. True to her adventurous spirit, Lisa literally "threw a dart at a map" and when it landed in Florida, picked up and moved to Miami, FL, in 2000 where she worked, played, and finished her studies.

A few years after school, Lisa met her husband Elliot, who was introduced by a family member. Lisa and Elliot quickly fell in love and decided to dedicate their lives to one another through marriage on May 2nd, 2009. Conceived in love, Lisa and Elliot welcomed two beautiful sons into the world, Logan Samuel Smith, 2011, and Owen Tarafa Smith, 2013.

Lisa was a dedicated and loving mother, devoting endless energy to creating a loving, safe, enriching, and adventurous environment for her sons. Lisa made the ultimate sacrifice to protect her child.

She was also a supportive and passionate spouse, who would spend considerable time talking with Elliot, and inspiring confidence to help him succeed in life and fatherhood.

In addition she was a committed and compassionate friend to many. Spending countless hours with friends, helping them by equally being a sounding board, shoulder to cry on, and companion in fun.

Lisa will be missed deeply by her husband, sons, family and dozens of friends. We will carry on her legacy by remembering how much she cared about the people closest to her, continuing on the path that she helped guide, and above all, loving each other and enjoying life as she did.

We love you always Lisa, and will never forget you.

She is survived by her husband and sons, Elliot, Logan, and Owen Smith; mother Elaine Brooks, sister Gina Torry, aunt, cousins, and a multitude of dear friends.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 27, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek where the family will receive friends. A remembrance service will be held at 3 p.m. in the chapel.

Today, we will say our final goodbyes to you Lisa. You will forever be vibrant, smiling, loving, and carefree in our hearts. You will truly be missed forever. I can't imagine life on earth without you and I know everyone else feels the same.

You sincerely touched so many lives and we're all grieving and heart broken for your dear family and friends. Elliot and your sweet boys lost an amazing bestfriend/wife and mother. Our hearts will be with them always and we will be here to walk with them through their new journey.

I will cherish all the amazing memories together and try to keep smiling, because I can always keep you in my heart. You're only one thought away. I look forward to seeing that beautiful smile and getting a long hug from you again. I love you to the moon and back!

Lisa appreciated every moment of her life. Her smile, optimism, and positive energy gave this away. Her spirit radiates through all of us during this difficult time. Just look at how people have come together to honor her. Lisa organized my sisters baby shower last month and she did such an amazing job. She cared so much for her friends and it was evident in all that she did. She loved my sister very much. To Elliot and the boys, I pray that God gives you strength and peace. Love Art and Maria.

As a young cousin of Lisa, I always looked up to her. When I was in 6th grade I traveled with my mom, Shannon, to Texas for her and Elliot's wedding, which was so beautiful. I was so excited to be going to Texas for the first time and to see my cousin again. I was in the midst of a phase of listening to the singer, Jason Mraz on repeat, and when I saw their first dance to Lucky (which had wonderful choreography that I appreciated as a dancer!) and Lisa twirling around her bright red heels and gorgeous dress I remember thinking how much I aspired to her. More recently in the summer of 2016, I got the chance to visit the whole family and spend a few days with them, playing, swimming, cooking, and visiting some of their favorite spots in Houston. There was one night on that trip where her, my grandma Pat, and I stayed up at night talking about our life experiences and sharing things in a way that was new to me as I had finally reached an age of maturity that allowed us to really connect. She was so grounding and wise in her words and advice she gave me that night, and inspired lots of hope for my own future. She assuaged my anxieties of going into my first year of college in the fall of 2016, and left me with anecdotes from her younger years. I will forever cherish these memories alongside many others of my powerful and caring cousin Lisa. Sending love to the rest of our family, her friends and community.

Lisa. My mother-of-the-year cousin living a fun-loving life in Texas. I'm so glad we started to get to know each other better a few years ago, after I had begun to come into my adulthood. I'm sorry it took so long for us to start building that closeness. I will always remember watching the 4th of July lightning storm from your front porch a few years ago when the firework show was rained out. I loved all the time I got to spend with you since. You were one of the liveliest people at my wedding who helped get everyone to let loose on the dance floor. I can't believe that you are gone. We all miss you so much, now and for always.

From the beginning you were someone that brought people together. I met you before Elliot, but in talking we became aware of mutual friends and the fact that we all lived in Miami before H-town.

It was pretty much instant friendship from there. After you and Kim met it was even more apparent how much we'd be intertwined going forward. We shared each other's weddings, had children within 2 months of one another and shared special moments every step of the way over the past 10+ years.

I will miss your bubbly personality, the boundless energy and positivity you exuded. You are such an important part of our lives and we will not forget that. There are not words to express the loss we feel and the lengths to which we will go to ensure your boys know what an amazing mother they had.

You will always be a part of our family and we hope to always be a part of yours. No matter what, we love you, Elliot, Logan and Owen. We are family, yesterday, today and forever.
