Mr. Barney was one of the first neighbors to introduce himself when my family moved to Columbia in 1994. He was a steadfast fixture of the neighborhood whom we always saw working in his yard and around the house. He had such an "aw shucks" demeanor when we spoke that it wasn't until I was much older that learned about his military service and firefighting days. In a day and age when many people don't know their neighbors, my family will miss his kindness and advice. Rest well, Mr. Barney.

I drove Chief Anderson for about three years on Car B. We got along well as we both enjoyed a cup of Hardee's coffee often. I enjoyed my time that I worked for him.So sorry for your loss.

Barney, Oh Barney, what can I say about you. You was and still the light and love of Eddie and of your sons. You are a caring loving grandfather and great grandfather. You worked so hard in your life. You made everyone laugh with your jokes. What ever you did, you did it with pride and a lot of pleasure. Your smile was contagious. Their is so much more I can say. But mostly, you will be greatly missed by all.
