I first met Bill at Super Bowl II when I was with the Raiders. Two year later I worked for him when he was president of the Oakland Seals the NHL. That was a short gig for both of us but we remained in touch. He was wonderful company and the very best fun to be with. One night in the early '70s I was in New York with my Dad. It was his first time in the city and Bill took us to P.J. Clarke's. At the next table was the infamous attorney, Roy Cohn. Bill introduced dad to Jack Whitaker the CBS Sports Spectacular host who also covered golf, racing's Triple Crown and did live, post-Super Bowl essays. After dinner, Dad and Whitaker talked alone for an hour at a corner table in the bar. Dad never mentioned it but I'm pretty sure that small town Nebraska boy was thrilled. Crease and I stood at the bar next to Shelley Winters who knocked 'em back in a full-length fur coat. We stayed very late, after 2am, and, even though we had a hotel in New Jersey, Crease insisted we crash at his Central Park West apartment. The last time I saw him was in New York about 2007. Liz and I met him for a drink in the bar of our hotel. He was on his way to meet with Paul Tagliabue and looked and sounded great. A memorable dude in my life. Rest easy, Crease.

I just learned about Bill's passing watching the NFL Pre Super Bowl show and wanted to e tend my deepest sympathies. When I first started in the NHL office in 1969 I traveled with him to the CBS game of the week and we stayed in touch through tout my NHL career as I later worked for his dear friend Bill Torrey another "Larrie" with the NY Islanders. He was "one of a kind" and I will miss him,
