Auburn – Jerome J. Roth, 90, of Clover Manor, formerly from Papoose Island, Raymond and Vero Beach, FL died Sunday October 29, at the Hospice House in Auburn.
Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on June 4, 1927, he was the son of Raymond Roth and Esther Sprenger Roth. He was educated in Sheboygan Schools and then enlisted in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines and upon his return home, attended the University of Wisconsin at Sheboygan and then at Madison. He played basketball and was a cheerleader for his beloved Badgers.
Upon graduation from college, Jerry started with the Hartford Fire Insurance Company in Chicago, Ill. On a career that would send him all across Illinois, then to Hartford, CT where he retired as an Assistant Vice president after 37 years of service.
Jerry was married to Bette Nelson Roth for 52 years and the two of them maintained an active retired lifestyle until complications of advanced age set in. Jerry and Bette travelled all over the country visiting friends and relatives and made regular trips to Sheboygan for Jerry's high school reunions. They stayed in close contact with good friends like the Kluge's and Stillwell's, friends that Jerry grew up with since childhood. Summer adventures together with these friends were always enjoyable. Jerry and Bette spent the summers in Raymond, Maine on Papoose Island where Jerry would spend the evenings fishing on the dock or cruising Sebago Lake. They also enjoyed seeing the world on cruise ships and were regular visitors to Las Vegas. They wintered in Vero Beach, FL where Jerry kept busy golfing and working as a volunteer tax preparer for the AARP.
Survivors include his son Tom of Auburn and his fiancée, Nicole Dunbar and granddaughters Emily Roth and Olivia Roth of Auburn. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Bette in 2014 and his brother Dr. Richard Roth of Madison, WI.
Tom wants to thank the compassionate caregivers that Jerry had in his final years at Montello Heights, Clover Manor and Androscoggin Hospice and Hospice House.
A private Memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of The Fortin Group/Plummer & Merrill Funeral Home, Cremation & Monument Services 217 Turner St. Auburn. 783-8545.

Betty and I are very sorry for your loss and offer our sympathies to you and your family. Jerry was a coworker and friend for many years at the Hartford and we played tennis every Tues. night with others from the Company (he had an awesome drop shot at the net). I'm sure it was a great comfort for him to have you and your family close and looking out for him the last few years. We will remember Jerry fondly and the time we enjoyed together.

My deepest sympathies to you Tom. I'll always remember Jerome and Bette. They were truly a class act. I'm 17 years younger than your Dad so I don't remember a lot of those early Sheboygan years. Do remember golfing with him at Riverdale in Sheboygan. When your Mom and Dad came back to this area I do have some very fond memories. Wonderful people.Cousin Patrick Murray
