Hadlyme – Anna Irene (Wlodarczyk) Hawthorne, 77, of Hadlyme, passed away October 27, 2017 at Middlesex Hospital Hospice after a brief illness.

She attended elementary school in Salem, CT, graduated from New London High School, and later attended the New London Business School. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a secretary at the Underwater Sound Lab in New London, CT.
She married William L. Hawthorne on May 20, 1961 at the Hadlyme Congregational Church in Hadlyme, CT. They enjoyed 56 happy years together. William survives her.
In addition to her husband, Anna is survived by her two children, Linda Winzer and William L. Hawthorne, Jr. and his wife Patricia. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Kevin, Alyssa, and Andrew. In addition, she is survived by two brothers, Alfred Wlodarczyk and his wife Lori, and Edward Wlodarczyk and his partner Terry. Also, five nieces and nephews, Michael and his wife Rachel, Pamela and her husband Alan, Richard, Steven and his partner Aimee, and Heidi and her husband Dave. In addition, eight great-nieces and great nephews, Zofia, Violet, Max, Olivia, Callum, Madison, McKenna, and Lincoln.
She was predeceased by her parents and twin infant brothers, John and Robert.
Anna was happiest when she was either spending time with her family or in the kitchen. Her family was her greatest joy, and her kitchen was her sanctuary. From the window in her kitchen, she would observe the hummingbirds that frequented the feeders she provided for them. Whether feeding hummingbirds or humans, her generosity knew no bounds. She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly.

Linda, I'm so sorry I never knew your mother--it sounds as if she was a wonderful woman. I have to tell you that, inreading your lovely obituary for her, I realize that she passed away on the exact same day that my dear mother did! So, sending truly sympathetic/empathetic love and support, I hope we can talk sometime soon and share stories, sadness and love. Alden

Anna's first thought was of others how to cheer us up, keep us fed, and make us happy. Her kindness and attention always made things better. She will be forever loved by her family, friends, and the Hadlyme community. Heartfelt condolences to Bill, Linda, and Billy.

We are saddened to hear of Anna's passing, but are confident you will receive the support you need from your friends and family! We have to remember the positive....she is not suffering. It is also a time to reflect on our lives and the things that mean most to us. Hopefully, family and friends. Let's not sweat the little stuff.

Anna was a great friend over the past 30 years. Always happy and smiling, and willing to hear our long winded hunting stories. She made the best cookies and always shared with us. My thoughts and prayers are with Bill and the family.

I have a lot of great memories of Ann. As one of the several hunters on their property we would always visit with Ann and Bill to chat about the days hunt and things going on in our lives. She always had a happy smile on her face and always listened to our long hunting story's. I will also miss those wonderful cookies she would make and offer to us. Thank you Ann for being such a good friend. You will be missed.

The Maziarz Family
No words can really describe what an incredible person she was, we were all so blessed and lucky to have her in our lives. The memories are amazing; countless holiday and birthday celebrations, games and games of scrabble, picnics at Gillette's Castle, going to the Hamburg Fair , trips for ice cream, and walks up to the attic for all of the TOYS she seemed to have saved just for us. Family picnics and sleepovers were the most fun and let's face it that refrigerator of magnets is something we will always cherish. One of the best memories has to be this past summer at Uncle Bill's surprise birthday party. From the minute we walked in until the time that we left, Aunt Anna had the biggest smile on her face. That's how all of our memories of her are filled with smiles, laughter and love. She was the best kind and there will never be another like her. We love you Aunt Anna
