Gene Taylor (Price) Gates, 86, of Conroe, Texas passed away peacefully on October 30, 2017, in Conroe, Texas. Gene was born to Jimmie Taylor and Elizabeth Ford Taylor on December 17, 1930, in Groveton, Texas. She graduated in 1948 from Groveton High School and later married J. V. (Sonny) Price. She and J. V. had two children and raised their family in Groveton. Sonny was the Trinity County Judge for 16 years and he and Gene were active in County politics, church, community and their childrens' lives. Gene worked for the U. S. Forest Service for over 30 years. Gene and J. V. were married for 33 years when J.V. passed away in 1981. Gene took early retirement from the Forest Service and moved to Conroe in 1986 to be closer to her family. In 1995, Gene married Hoover Gates. Gene was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Conroe for over 30 years. She was a volunteer at the Montgomery County Hospital, now Conroe Regional, from 1987-1996. Gene felt blessed to have many wonderful friends in her Conroe community, at FUMC Conroe and in her Adult Bible Class. Gene was a Montgomery County Fair Association volunteer and was in charge of Senior Citizens Day for many years. She and Hoover had many Meandering Methodist friends and Gene made new friends easily at Heritage Oaks. She loved her Lord, loved her family, loved Conroe, loved to travel and just generally loved life.
Gene Gates is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Elizabeth Taylor; her husband J. V. Price and her husband, Hoover Gates as well as her sister "by choice", Martha Derrick.
