Beverly Hay Losch 7/20/1929 – 10/27/2017
Born in Racine, WI to Evelyn and Norman Hay. Graduated from Washington Park High School in 1948 and moved to Washington DC in 1949. Bev worked as secretary of the Medical Director at AT&T in Washington until 1965. In 1950 Bev was married to Bob Losch a prominent Washington attorney from Racine until his death in 2004.
Bev was involved in several charitable organizations planning galas and fundraising events in Washington in the 1970's and 1980's. She served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committees for the Salvation Army Auxiliary and Travelers Aid Society. Venues for the creative galas included the Nicaraguan embassy, the IMF building, the National Historic Wax Museum and the National Zoo. Bev and Bob enjoyed life in Washington including trips to one of Bob's clients Marjorie Merriweather Post at her homes in New York and Mar-a-Lago.
In 1979 Bev and Bob purchased and restored a Clark Waggaman-designed home known as the Johnson House. The home has been on the Dupont Circle Home tour, as well as being listed in the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In 1980 the home won a "Merit Award" for Historic Preservation by the DC Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The home was used for Capital Hill receptions and in more recent years Bev was proud to host monthly piano salons featuring her restored 1926 Steinway grand piano.
Bev and Bob were active members of The University Club of Washington since the Kennedy Administration. Bev enjoyed many fine meals there with family and friends until last year. In earlier years Bev loved her bi-annual trips to Wisconsin to visit family and friends and looked forward to summer trips to East Coach beaches with the mantra "We need it bad". She enjoyed her pet dogs.
Most recently Bev enjoyed listening to music, dancing and being with her loving fiancé Tom Murray.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard, and husband Robert. She is survived by fiancé, Thomas Murray of Maryland, sisters-in-law Gloria Losch Jonas and Helen Hay of Wisconsin, and family, Margaret Flood of Washington and Gayle Ness of Virginia, as well as 10 nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
A celebration of Bev's life will be at Gawler's Funeral Home at 2 pm November 12th, 2017 . Private burial will be in Racine, Wisconsin in December.
In lieu of flowers, memorials and contributions may be made in her name to Dupont Circle Village (2121 Decatur Place NW • Washington DC 20008 • 202.436.5252). Bev was in hospice at home for the past ten months. Many thanks to her doctors, nurses and caregivers at Capital Caring and Life Matters.

The picture in the guest book captures the sweetness and caring that made Bev such a wonderful person and friend. I was fortunate to experience her legendary generosity as she opened her house and her life to her friends. I have not had the privilege of knowing her in her early years . When I met Bev she appeared to be a quiet, fragile and sad person who missed her husband terribly. I was so pleased to see her transformation when she met Tom. He ignited a glow in Bev and seemed to restore life to her. The two of them radiate a happiness whenever they were together that they shared with all of us.

Bev,
You were always gracious, elegant and welcoming. Thank you for including me among those you welcomed into your home.
