Mary Bernice Bostick Peeples, known to her family as “Bunt”, was born on July 31, 1922 and passed away on October 28, 2017, having recently celebrated her 95th birthday. She was the daughter of Everette Clark Bostick and Lena Mae Dees Bostick, part of a large and loving family that included brothers Winner and Clark Bostick and sisters Mavis Justice, Irene Garriga, Ellen Presley and Dorothy Stroman, all of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her sister Cathy Churchwell and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bunt grew up in Flora, Mississippi and graduated from Flora High School before she and her sister Mavis enrolled in nursing school at the Jackson Infirmary. She served as a registered nurse at the hospitals of Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana as well as Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. Her final nursing assignment was at the Houston VA Hospital. She was proud to be a member of the Jackson Infirmary Nursing Alumni.
Bunt built her home in Wiggins, Mississippi and provided care for her mother for a number of years before she passed away at age 93. She had no children but took great interest in the lives of her nieces and nephews. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wiggins and received homebound communion on a regular basis when she was no longer able to attend.
Bunt will be missed by family and friends. The family would like to thank her caregivers who helped her live comfortably in her home for the last few years. We are grateful for Shirley “Tinker” Harris, Jamie Bowman, Tracy Slade, Rachel Sue Pippin and Ashley Vean.
