Harrison spent most of his working life in the field of higher education. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Master in Economics from Cornell University in 1952. Tommie and Extended Family:
The time we worked with Harrison during the ten years he was on the faculty of Lenoir-Rhyne University, the Business Department was a family, and not just a work family. Bob, Ray, Fran, Harrison, Kris, Sarah, Patty, Ted, J. Wayne and I worked together on a daily basis as faculty in the School. And blessedly, our work family was extended to where we knew, truly cared for, and shared our outside-of-work families that included Bob and Janice; Ray and Francey; Fran and Tom; Harrison and Tommie; Kris; Sarah and Danny; Patty and Judd; Ted and Pattie; and J. Wayne and I.

I have a story about the last time I saw Tommie and Harrison. After Harrison's retirement, he and Tommie had moved to Glen Allen, VA to be near family. My Radford College (now University) friends met at a Radford restaurant prior to us going over to RU to tour our old dorm, classroom buildings, bookstore, etc. It was celebrating our 40th anniversary of the seven of us meeting our freshman year. We were seated on the terrace of this restaurant and I got up to go to the restroom and passed by one of the tables and I did a double take and looked back. There sat Harrison and Tommie. I tapped her on the shoulder and she jumped up with that warm, full smile and genuine happiness to see an old fried, and she gave a warm hug. That hug paled, however, to the hug that Harrison gave me. So we chatted and reminisced to catch up on each others' lives. They were there with members of their family visiting their grandchild who was a student at Radford. What a great example that it is a small world!

But I will always remember our happy times, both on campus and off, as our Business Department family was special! I will also remember this time of the year moving forward, since his passing during the World Series gives a time stamp to remember him. We all know how much he loved sports, especially baseball; it will be something that I can always associate with Harrison, a colleague, friend, and dedicated professor.

Harrison is remembered and will be missed!

Harrison was a friend and colleague during the most cohesive years at Lenoir-Rhyne's Business Department. I think of Harrison and Tommie often. Just two days ago my husband told a story about how excited Harrison was to have my husband fill his truck with horse manure for Tommie's garden using the tractor's front-end loader.

We met Harrison thru his family and always enjoyed his company and his great enthusiasm for sports chat. He always had a positive outlook on life and family. He was loved by many will be missed by all of us.
