WILLIAM EVAN GILBERT, age 88, of Rochester Hills, died Friday, November 3, 2017. William was born on December 27, 1928 in Detroit, son of the late Gilbert and Phyllis (Roose) Gilbert. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Barbara (nee Van Norman); children Judy Tyler, John (Nancy) Tyler, the late David Tyler, Randy (Jerri) Gilbert, Shelley Gilbert, and Dale (Laura) Gilbert. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. William played semi-professional baseball from 1946 until being drafted by the U.S. Army in 1951. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Following his military service William attended, and graduated from, Lawrence Technological University. He worked for Chrysler Motors Engineering for 32 years until retiring in 1987. William and Barbara moved to Florida in 1987. An avid golfer, William was a member of the Sugar Mill Woods Country Club in Florida. He was also a member, and very active, at the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, Florida. While in Michigan, William attended Meadowbrook Christian Church and Calvary Chapel. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Meadowbrook Christian Church, 2741 Walton Blvd, Rochester Hills. Pastor Bill DesRoshers officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American House Hospice Medical Team.
