Jerald Schnell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2017.

Funeral services for Jerald (Jerry) Joseph Schnell will be held on November 10, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Rose Catholic Church in Roseville, with a reception at the church following the service. Jerry was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on November 13, 1938 and passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 30, 2017 in Roseville, CA.
He was raised in Ramona, SD by his parents, Joe and Sis Schnell. Jerry was the oldest of three children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Jerry was an active student at Ramona High School, and shared many fond stories of growing up in a small town. After his high school graduation in 1957, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Midway.
He met the love of his life, Patricia Kennedy, while he was stationed in California. They were married on October 13, 1962 and were blessed with 5 children. Jerry loved going to his girls' softball games, and happily had his son tag along with him on his routes.
Jerry was a small business owner his entire working life. He started out in the milk business and then ventured into the yogurt/ice-cream business. He retired in 2001, but it was difficult for him to sit still, so he kept busy delivering milk to schools as well as transporting cars for a local tire shop.
Jerry never met a person who wouldn't later become a friend. He loved joking with people and would always leave them with a smile on their faces.
The most important thing in Jerry's life was his family, and he loved any time that he could spend with his children and grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, playing cards, and spoiling his dog, Tippy. Jerry was a long time member of St. Rose Catholic Church.
Grateful to have shared in Jerry's life are his beloved children, Diane (Danny) Astle, Judi (Mike) Cordova, Kathi Gaston, Jim (Lori) Schnell, and Sandy (Greg) Espinosa; 14 grandchildren, loving companion, Patricia Smith; sister, Polly (John) Habeger, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Schnell; parents, Joe and Sis Schnell; and his brother, William Schnell.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Saint Rose Catholic Church or your favorite charity.

Schnell Family,
So sorry for the loss of your Dad. We spent years with your dad, mom and the kids at the Roseville Softball field. Lisa Mack Steelman played ball with Sandy from age 7 until they started high school. Your dad always had a smile, he was friendly and kind and willing to do anything to help. Your memories of him will get you through the hard times and he will forever be in the hearts of all who loved him and knew him. You are in our prayers.

I'm at a complete loss for words, Jerry. I've tried to type the jumbled thoughts in my head, to make sense of you being gone. I can't. You won't be there, next time we go camping. I can't quite fathom that. I can't see, not seeing your motor home, parked next to Mike and Judi's. Pulling in and not seeing the two matching Braves. I never thought as you drove away on October 22nd,
as our annual 49er Village, Halloween weekend closed, saying Bye Chris it would be the last time I saw you.
I love you Jerry and I know you knew that.
Doesn't make it any easier, or bearable, but just knowing you loved me, made my world a better place.
XOXO,
Christina

Dear Diane, Judi, Kathy, Jim and Sandy, Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your dear father, Jerry. He was a good husband, father, companion and friend. I remember our days at the softball fields and beyond. He always had a smile on his face and a warm hand extended. I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend the service for him at St. Rose. I have a terrible cold and I don't want to pass that on. His memory will live in your hearts forever. Joe Alameida.

Will miss you Jerry at all the family functions. It has been my pleasure knowing both you and Pat through our children's marriage; Dan and Diane Astle.
Often, I think of Pat and what a kind person she was. Now, both of you will be tugging at my heart. LOVE IS "NEVER ENDING". Your and Pat's children and grandchildren will always feel that LOVE FROM YOU BOTH.
I am sitting here seeing your photo and don't know exactly what to say next.
Since we both grew up in the same era I guess I could quote Roy Roger's song "Happy Trails to you until we meet again". I'm ending this with those words as I feel you are smiling. With fond memories, Gennette.
