Maria Jose "Zezita" Tomas, a resident of Danbury for 50 years, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on November 5, 2017. She was the wife of the late Albertino Tomas, to whom she was married for 66 years.
She was born in Vila Mendo De Tavares, Portugal and was raised in Vila Franca Da Serra, Gouveia, Portugal. Zezita was the daughter of Antonio Amaral and Felisbela Oliva.
Zezita will be sadly missed by her sons and daughters-in-law: Luis and Filomena, Serafim and Carminda. Her grandchildren: Alex; Jennifer; Sofia; and Daniel and his wife, Loren. Her brother Manuel Amaral and his, wife Conceição; her sister Deolinda DaCunha (Portugal); and her many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was a very giving person, caring for the children of family and friends while parents worked-she was affectionately called "Avó" [grandma] by so many kids. Zezita's favorite pastime was gardening, constantly tending to her vegetables and flowers. She was also an avid cook, and family and friends were always welcomed for dinner. Zezita loved a full house and bringing everyone together around a meal, a tradition she instilled in our family. She will be missed by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 149 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received from 5pm-8pm on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Department of Oncology at Danbury Hospital, c/o Western CT Health Network Foundation, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury, CT 06810 or to Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western CT, 30 Milestone Rd., Danbury, CT 06810.
