Dorothy McCombs Burton
Dear Howard and Karen, Glen and Linda, Paul and Sara.
You and your families are in our prayers during this difficult time in the loss of you dear mother and my favorite aunt.
It's never easy to say goodbye to a parent and words are never adequate in expressing our feelings. So we cherish our memories, til we meet again.
I remember picking pears with Aunt Ruby when I was a teenager on the farm in Fonthill. Those bushels were heavy and we hauled them from the orchard up the hill to the barn. Seems like yesterday.
Aunt Ruby and Uncle Don moved to Bowmanville to manage the nursery there. Uncle Don's rheumatism was so bad, they had to move to Arizona. The family was so sad, thinking we'll never see them again.
However, everyone kept in touch through snail mail. Uncle Don wrote every Sunday night and the letters moved from Grandma (Evelyn McCombs) to Aunt Vida (Jim Bench's mother) and on to Ivan (our dad).
Shirley, John, Jim and I, flew to Arizona when dad had his stroke.
Although it was tough on dad, we had a really good visit/learning experience being with Aunt Ruby and Uncle Don. We had: Bible lessons, cooking classes, the value of zucchini, knitting dish cloths, health care and a great tour of Tempe.
Life in the south was really hot - although it was winter. As in all good families, Aunt Ruby passed away without giving me the secret sauce recipe. LOL!
My heart is heavy as I think of your mom and the blessing she was to me.
Thanks Aunt Ruby for being there for us. You took good care of your family and friends, now God is taking care of you.
Remember I love and care about the whole family.

Dear Cousins,
We share in your sorrow of having to say goodbye to your loving mother and our aunt. She had an infectious enthusiasm for life and people. She was full of energy and willing to try new things and adventures. Being in her late 80's she would have hiked to the natural bridge but we did not encourage her as we were afraid for her to do it. She enjoyed touring around with us especially when visiting her children. She was dedicated to feeding Uncle Don and Jon a healthy diet. We have all benefited from her generous spirit of love and kindness as she welcomed our dad and us into her home: making meals and giving us support. She will live on, in our hearts and memories, as someone so special cannot be forgotten.
Their's was a real love story : our favorite memories are Aunt Ruby and Uncle Don holding hands and watching television ; and them standing in the driveway holding hands and waving goodbye as we drove away. May God comfort all of your family at this time . Love John, Louise, Shirley, Neil and families.
