LEXINGTON - Michael Joseph Price, Jr. passed way on November 6, 2017 at the age of 84 in Lexington, S.C. Michael was the son of the late Michael and Josephine (McDermott) Price and was born on January 7, 1933 in Wilkensburg, Pennsylvania. Formerly a resident of Mount Dora, Florida, Michael relocated to the Columbia, South Carolina in 2008.
Michael attended Mt. Lebanon High School and graduated from his beloved Pennsylvania State University in 1954 with a degree in Journalism. It was on the first day of class at Penn State that Michael met his classmate and future bride, Ida Mae “Dee” Renner. He married the love of his life on September 4, 1954 and together they had the other loves of his life, his “girls,” Laurie, Linda and Leslie.
His diverse and illustrious career, which spanned a half century, began in the “Mad Men” days of the advertising business, where he was a Copywriter, Creative Director and finally head of his own agency. His career in advertising also led to him to involvement in radio, stage, TV, and cinema and he earned featured roles with actors such as Tom Hanks and Ernest Borgnine. He also became a well-known voice on numerous national and local TV commercials.
A true renaissance man, Michael was a successful businessman, teacher, artist, author and town official; but his greatest pride and satisfaction came as husband, father, grandfather, and his most accomplished title: great-grandfather, aka “Pop Pop.”
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Ida Mae (Dee) Price; his three cherished daughters, Laurie Price Barnwell (Bobby LaMotte) of Columbia, SC, Linda Price Bennett (David) of Mount Dora, FL and Leslie Price Cutitta (Frank) of Wayland, MA; his adored grandchildren, Kelly Daves (Chris), Christine Sears (Roger), Staci Bennett (Jim Innis), Cameron Bennett (Amanda), Olivia Cutitta, Genevieve Cutitta; great-grandchildren, Bennett Daves, McCall Daves, Madeline Sears, Carter Sears, Merrick Bennett and Ainsleigh Bennett; his beloved big sister, Mary Louise Munson (John); and numerous nieces and nephews who all adored his loving spirit. He was predeceased by his cherished brother, Jerry Goodrich; sisters, Rosemary and Phyllis; and by his son-in-law, Daniel J. Barnwell, Jr.
The family is planning a celebration of life at a future date.
