John Christopher Lang passed away suddenly at home on November 4, 2017, at the age of 35 years.
A native of Raleigh, Chris attended Needham Broughton High, where he was a member of their award-winning drumline. Chris graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Electronic Media/Broadcast Communication, and then returned to work in the Raleigh area, most recently working as a multimedia developer with Cisco. His love for technology and creativity carried over into his spare time. He played music with friends, created videos and cartoons, and was developing a video game. Chris had the discipline of his father and the creativity of his mother, devoting everything he had to pursuing what he loved. He will be remembered for his booming laugh and was always armed with a well-timed joke.
He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Carey Debnam Lang, who by Chris' own admission made him a better person. Chris is also survived by his daughter, Lucy, to whom he was a loving and devoted father. Lovingly remembering Chris are his parents, Dr. John and Cheryl Lang, and sisters, Alyssa Froelich and Katie Lang.
Chris' family will be receiving between 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, at The Glenwood at 3300 Womans Club Dr., Raleigh, NC 27612 (also known as the Woman's Club). A Celebration of Chris' life will be held in the same location on Saturday, November 11, at 1:00 p.m., with reception to follow until 5:00 p.m. Arrangements are being made by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home.
Memorial donations in memory of Chris can be made to Dorcas Ministries at 187 High House Rd, Cary, NC 27511.

Carey and Lucy although we've never met, I had a chance to work closely with Chris here at Cisco. He shared his incredible creativity and many talents, always met us with a smile and a willingness to do anything to help. I know Chris loved you and his family deeply and his kindness flowed to everyone around him. Please know you're completely surrounded by the love of all his many friends and family.

I had the privilege of working with Chris at Cisco on quite a few multimedia projects. Those projects were always a pleasure because of Chris. Nothing was ever too crazy, and he was never too busy to help. Couple all that with his easy going style it was easy to become fast friends with him. We are all saddened at this loss, but all much better for having known him.
God speed my friend.

I have fond memories of Chris from Daniels and Broughton. We were both band geeks in middle school. In high school, I saw Chris most mornings during WCAP, the Broughton TV show. I specifically remember how funny he was and how he could light up the room with his silliness. Today, I remember him and share in the sadness of his loss.

John & Cheryl, I cannot imagine your pain. I know what my parents went through when Perry died and it is something no one should ever have to experience. Please wrap yourselves in a giant hug from me until I can get there to do it in person.

We are all shocked to hear of Chris' passing. If you knew Chris you knew that he was a genuine person who met no strangers. We were blessed that Chris shared his talents and gifts with us at Dorcas Ministries. The videos Chris and John produced for us were priceless and perhaps the best communication tool we ever had. Family, please know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers and we will be here for you in any capacity needed.

Carey and Lucy, Dr. & Mrs. Lang- My heart breaks for you. Chris was a close friend of my daughter Sarah Whitmeyer and during the Broughton days I had the pleasure of getting to know him. Chris was kind, polite, funny , and a bright light. He was a loyal and true friend. May you find peace in these difficult days and feel the love of friends and family.

What a sweetheart! I don't think he had a single mean bone in his body. His humor and good nature were memorable. No wonder he was loved so well by so many. It is a blessing to be able to see those same traits in his beautiful daughter. We will keep him in our hearts forever. His light will continue to shine.
