Margaret Agnes Dunham Cooney, born November 3, 1927 and died on November 10, 2017, just after her 90th birthday, with her family by her side. She was a native of New Orleans and resident of Terrytown for over 53 years. Loving wife of the late Raymond A. Cooney. Daughter of the late Mary and William Dunham. Preceded in death by her sister, Dolores Neely, her sister-in-law, Dorothy Dunham, and brother-in-law, Roy Neely. Sister of Roy, Danny, and William Dunham and sister-in-law of Julie Mae Cooney, Janet Hebert, and Malcolm Roberts. She was the mother of Bridget Roberts (Gary), Connie Roberts (Bruce), Gail Duncan-DePhillips (Clyde), Raynel Zimmer (David), Maureen Cortez (Chadd), Mark Cooney (Fay), and Dana Cooney. Granny to Gretchen Mura, Brandi Griffin, Mandi Griffin, Raymond Griffin Jr., Lisa Sharp (Scott), Angela Thiaville (Rickey), Doug King Jr. (Lauren), Alicia Blanchard (Joey), Bruce Ting Jr. (Darlene), Chad Johnson, Carrie Gulizo (Dominick), Christopher Zimmer, Justin Zimmer (Randie), Tyler Zimmer (Nicole), Gavin Cortez, Luke Cooney (Megan), Maggie Cooney (Blake), Sadie Cooney, Matthew Hinkel (Dominique). "Great-Granny" to Sarah Belsome, Abbi Griffin, Alli Tully, Laila Griffin, Brhett Tu, Austin and Avery Sharp, Aidan and Aubrey Thiaville, Lilly King, Chad Allemand, Bryce Ting, Amanda and Joie Blanchard, Preslie, Gracelyn, Dominick, and Christopher Gulizo, Benjamin, Christopher, Mason, and Jackson Zimmer, Vivian Hinkel, and one more on the way. She was preceded in death by great-grandchildren Reese Sharp, Lucy, and Michael Christopher King. She was survived by a host of nieces and nephews, especially close to Mary Klein, Sheila Allen, and Rosemary Arriaga. She was Godmother to Cheryl Georgusis and the late Randy Neely. Margaret was a graduate of Kohn High School. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 378 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 3121. Margaret was married to her loving husband for 56 years and enjoyed and excelled at being a great mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and surrogate mother to many. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at CHRIST THE KING CHURCH, 535 Deerfield Road, Terrytown, on Tuesday morning, November 14, 2017 at 11:00. Visitation will be held at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, on Monday evening from 6:00 until 9:00, and again at church on Tuesday morning beginning at 10:00. Interment will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna. An online guestbook is available at www.westsideleitzeagan.com.
